We don't need any so called young people who are only interested in amassing wealth at the expense of tax payers,we need to be appointing people who have the experience,we should even not appoint anybody who never built a decent house,if you don't have a house and have your own decent car you should not be holding any sensitive position to come to office and start building a house and buying cars,if in all your life you could not afford any of these things you should not have any business working for us in any sensitive position,nonsense.

The president can appoint anyone to be head or deputy head of any government agency regardless of age. That is political appointment which can be revoked by the president if he/she thinks the person is not performing or can be removed if government changes. That is political appointment.

However, if Ghana Health Service asks for people to apply to head the organization, then not older than 60 years applies. In this case, the person is handed the job under contract for 4 years. This person cannot be removed even if government changes within the 4 years. This is what GHS is used to. That is appointment by civil service rules.

But the president can appoint outside GHS based on ability to do the job. President Kufuor appointed Prof Akosa to head GHS though he was from outside GHS. In his case, he was less than 60 years but was based on his ability to do the job.

Kwame, the head of the GHS is not a civil service appointment. This is a political appointment and does not fall under the age limit rule. Therefore the issue of one being over 60 and cannot function effectively is baseless.

Yes I agree that the Constitution also allows for contract appointment for retirees for up to 5 more year, but not more than 2 yrs at a time. However you will agree with me that this provision has seriously bn abused by d system and that explains why you have almost 30% of the top public service heads being over 60yrs.
Don't you think that this is just not fair and must be stopped? No politics about this bcos all d regimes have been doing it but it's got to stopp!

In uk, the retiring age is now being moved from 65 for men to 70 and 60 for women to 65. the young ones must be prepared to understudy the old ones. this person in question has worked in the health sector for a long time time both in Ghana and abroad so he is more qualify to lead the GHS.

It has in the past always been competitive meritorious selection and appointment.

The staff of GHS should stop making unnecessary noise and shut up, idiots. We need an experience people to man the dept so age is irrelevant here. Nana Addo may be old but he more experienced than everyone in the NDC .party.
