U don't understand the news, they were having a two hour drill when they spotted the guy loitering around the embassy, they noticed he was holding a knife and attempted to enter the embassy, before they arrested and disarmed him, they noticed he threw something like bag behind the embassy wall, out of curiosity and caution, they used dogs to sniff the bag and their reactions showed it contained explosives, so they detonated the explosives and samples were taken for a lab test, so it was a real scenario that unfolded during the drill, not acting.

I was at the US Embassy in Accra at 10 am when the public address system announced that a combined Military exercise involving US marines and Ghanaian armed forces was about to take place at the embassy compound.

We were told that explosions will be heard, but there's no need to worry because it's only an anti terrorist drill, the man with a knife incident may have been an isolated incident which had no connection to the military operation.

Joint military drills are conducted globally in order to keep millitary forces battle ready and in a proactive combat mode.
