Nana was right. The independence movement did not start with Nkrumah. As an Engineering student in a polytechnic abroad, I was made to pick up courses in Outline History of Africa, World Civilizations and History of Technology, The history of Nok Culture, etc. In my history class, I read that independence movement actually started after the World War I. The African soldiers who fought alongside the British in trenches realised that the Whiteman is not next to God after all since they witnessed the whites dying miserably besides them and that wiped away the fear and respect accorded to them. Secondly, the humiliating defeat of the Brits by the Japanese in Singapore also raised questions about the superiority of the Great Britain. Other defiance activities like the Aba Women's movement and media warfare waged by veteran African politicians like Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was then domiciled in Accra, and JB Dankwa all contributed positively to the independence of Ghana and Africa as a whole. To isolate Nkrumah and bestow on him the sole achiever of Ghana's independence is very erroneous. I never attended any university but I think universities in Ghana are not teaching our youth well.

Then you will understand the real history and why OSAGYEFO is recognized world-wide to be the founder of GHANA......PERIOD!

He was a BOLD AND A FIREBRAND politician who took on the colonialsts at the time when the same bunch of lawyers who invited him to help them gain independence for Ghana, were pussy-footing around.

These same bunch of lawyers were benefiting from the colonialists by dragging their feet to gain independence at the time, for GHANA.

Osagyefo is nobody's fool and doesn't take fools gladly so, he fought gallantly to get us independence.........

If these bunch of lawyers truly and really had our independence at heart, why would they then go to the Queen of England to tell her we were not ready for it yet?

So, please ask yourself - "Why then start the process, if not ready?"

Well, the reason being......most of them were profiting from the delay in attaining independence. They were then caught out and exposed.

So, what their children and grand-children are doing now is to distort the facts of history to save face and the shame upon their parents and grandparents.

THEIR HYPOCRISY BEGGARS BELIEF!

With all the distortion of historical facts by their children and grandchildren. The TRUTH can NEVER be hidden.......OSAGYEFO IS THE FOUNDER OF OUR NATION GHANA! PERIOD!

This is not about the two USELESS PARTIES - NPP and NDC.

You pulled down all images of Nkrumah, renamed everything that had his name, the name and images have resurrected long after his death, not just in Ghana but all over. These do not tell you guys anything about the man and what he did for Ghana and Africa?

It is true that the UGCC invited Nkrumah to Ghana, but long before Nkrumah came back to Ghana, he had made a name for himself in North America and Europe. That is why the UGCC sent for his help and leadership. Truly, the UGCC was right about Kwame, he came he saw, he did something about the situation and he conquered, and made Ghana free! What did the others that opposed his success not understand? Was that jealousy? They did not want to fall behind him and let him lead when they had completely failed to lead the country into freedom land. Hmmmm. I remember the version of the Christian song that we song for Kwame show boy, that went, "if you follow him, if you follow him Osagyefo......."

JB could not even win an election in his own home town. one cant talk abt apartheid in south africa without Mandela. Mandela symbolizes the whole fight against apartheid, but the struggle was there before him but he ended it. sometimes its funny when npp is talking with all the contradictions. npp will credit kuffour for discovering oil in commercial quantities in Ghana, yet they dont want nkrumah to be called founder of ghana. was GNPC not there and all the potential oil sites identified long before K4 came to power?

The President is right, young people should read and understand our history before joining this politically twisted issue. How can somebody like JOSEPH YAMMIN, whose father did not even know where Gold Coast was, but came to Ghana a decade after the struggle, dispute the speech of the President. Please, let us put our political colors aside and let us celebrate our forebearers properly. We need FOUNDERS' DAY and not FOUNDER'S DAY (without public holiday) to put this argument to rest. 60years and still not able to decide on this, is a national disgrace.

Gold Coast didn't become a British Colony in 1844.There was Nothing in the Bond of 1844 that suggested that our Chiefs from Denkyira,Abra,Assin,Donadie,Domanasie,Anomabo and Cape Coast surrended their traditonal powers to Britain,the Crown or the Queen.
Captain George Maclean signed different treaties with many traditional leaders including the Ashanti King in 1831 for peaceful coexistance.He was the one who drafted the "Declaration of Fante Chiefs" before the arrival of Governor Woseley Hill in Feb.1844.
Governor Hill changed the original title of the agreement and made it Bond of 1844.
You can see that not not all the Fante Chiefs in the Central signed the Bond of 1844.The Eastern and Western Chiefs also didn't sign it.Therefore,the Bond of 1844 in its present form cannot be used as original document that the British used to colonise the Gold Coast.The Fante Chiefs never at any point in time signed a document for British to colonise Ghana,this is very important to note.
On the contrary,the Fante Confederation that was formed in 1868 were allies to the British and in 1874 agreed to come Under British protection because they had no more money to run their military forces.The important issue here is that the members are different from the Chiefs who signed the Bond of 1844 with Governor Hill and Maclean in Cape Coast.As Young as I am compared to Nana Addo and J.B.Danquah,their story is wrong.
This is the reason why J.B.Danquah couldn't attain Independence for Ghana.
When Kwame Nkrumah demanded Independence from the British,he didn't use the Bond of 1844 but used the traditional Land Tenure which made the British looked as tennants but not overlords.That is to say,all the Europeans who came to the Gold Coast from the time of Don Diego D'Adzanbuja of Portugal to Governor Hill of England were Merchants.They also took permission from the Chiefs before they put up their castles for trading.A tennant cannot become a land lord without any agreement to that effect.In other words,the British stole our freedom and have no right whatsoever to defend it with the Bond of 1844 when as a matter of fact we have been trading and fighting with them since 17th century.Thank you.

Surely, Ako Adjei was right about Nkrumah, when he got involved with the struggle, we won our Independence. That is why we always say Nkrumah led us into Independence. That is why we say Nkrumah never dies. We are still talking about the man, even though he has been dead a long time ago. If you traveled outside of Ghana and if anyone asked you where you came from, if you say Ghana, the first words that will come out of the foreigners mouth is KWAME NKRUMAH. ABA don't you worry, in all our hearts and minds, that man called Osagyefo will never be forgotten. There is no need for an institute to remember him. He lives in our memory.
