I have hardly seen two cats in my area since 2008 when an ewe family moved into the area.They have decimated the cat population in the area and the little that are left have gone into hiding and bolt away when they hear the foot steps of people coming close to them.But all of a sudden I have been seeing a lot of them (cats) in groups of about 15 to 20 in a synchronized meowing, purring and hissing in the area since the story broke out that the Ewes want independence.I was wandering why, but now I realize they are getting together to sing and give thanks to God that at last these Ewe neighbors will be deported to Eweland if they gain independence for them to roam the streets without fear of being consumed

A misunderstanding between two brothers over cat meat has resulted in one of them being in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

For causing unlawful harm to his brother, Eric Fobih, 28, a mason, has been sentenced to one year in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Eric, who pleaded guilty to the one count of causing unlawful harm preferred against him by the prosecution, was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Ms Afua Adu-Amankwah and sentenced accordingly.

In passing the sentence, the judge said though the crime committed was second felony and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, she took into consideration the fact that the convict was not known to the law, his youthful age “and besides, he pleaded guilty at his first appearance.’’

Facts

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Daniel Opoku, told the court that the convict, a mason and Nkansah,unemployed were both residents of Kokoso, a suburb of Kumasi.

He said on March 27, 2014, the two brothers had a meal of cat meat for lunch and reserved some for their supper after which they both left the house.

However, he said after they had left, Nkansah sneaked into the house and ate the rest of the meat.

According to Inspector Opoku, when Eric returned later in the evening and realised that his elder brother had eaten the meat, he confronted him and that resulted in a fight.

Mr Opoku said in the process, Eric took a cutlass that was lying on the ground, and inflicted deep wounds on the hands and legs of the brother.

The victim was rushed to the Emergency and Trauma Unit of KATH where he had remained on admission.

Later on, the case was reported to the police leading to Eric’s arrest.

We should be part of Ghana. We can not blame anybody for our undeveloped Volta region. We have ruled Ghana longer period than any other ethnic group in Ghana. For the past thirty five years from PNDC revolution until president Nana Akuffo presidence, it is we Ewes who have been dictating the affairs of Ghana. Our political elites have stolen a lot of money from state coffers.

If majority of Ewes are still poor and our region is undeveloped, do we blame anybody? We are our own enemies. Ewes intellectuals must digest this issue very well and talk to those separatists. We must be ashamed of ourselves. We can not blame anybody for our problems.

We must work hard like the Akans and stop the jealousy. We can not sit down on our butt and expect someone to develop our region for us. Let us be truthful and stop the lies.

Those who want to go to Togo should back their things and go. I don't think there is lack of space in Togo. They don't need the whole Ewe tribe to go with them. Our Togolese Ewes are moving into Ghana almost everyday. They come to school in Ghana, and they love everything that is Ghana. Why should we move to Togo or forms Togoland country? If Volta region is poor and undeveloped, so will your Togoland country you are trying to create. Majority of Ewes are not with you.

If you want to go to Togoland, go quietly and never to come back. We love Ghana, and Ghana is for every Ghanaian. Let us try to improve out lots by working hard and invest our money.We can not continue to hate Akans.

I wonder if the Minister is aware that this succession issue has been prevalent since the late General Kutu Acheapong's regime.
We are in a democratic dispensation and people must be given the briefing space to express their views. What threat has this minute political elements posed to the Sovereignty of Ghana? These people are expressing their Constitutional right by making their views heard.
The Minister should stop the speculative game and get something serious and important doing than holding press conferences on irrelevant matters.
It's the responsibility of the security agencies to monitor their activities if it deems the need that they are a security threat to the nation.

The plebiscite 60 years ago had some terms and one of them was for the separatists to join Ghana for 50 years after which they have the option of going their separate way if they feel being with Ghana is not in their interest. The records are there for people to check. So what is needed is diplomacy and not reducing the matter to treason. Government needs to sit with them to find a common ground. tough talking won't end it.
