There was near pandemonium and confusion at the Annual Global African Investment Forum held in Westminster, Central London after a heated exchange between Ghana’s President John Mahama and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo degenerated into open insults.This was due to General Obasanjo openly accusing the Ghanaian president and his government of blackmailing and collecting bribes from Nigerian businessmen in Ghana, buying numerous properties in Nigeria and South Africa and financially contributing 12 million dollars to Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign last year. This infuriated President Mahama who lost his temper and pointing his finger, called General Obasanjo an ” idiot” and a “silly buffoon”.It took other ministers present as well as Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to calm tempers and usher President Mahama to a nearby room. The forum, which takes place from 1st to 3rd December is attended by African Heads of States, Ministers, Private equity firms and investors to discuss opportunities for investment and development in African Economies.

We can have a reserve in which any man between the age of 18 and 55 can be called upon in times of crisis. A poor country like Ghana should not spend its meager resources on a redundant institution like the military.

The average soldier will be less than 45 years when he retires after 20 years of service.Extending their service for another 5 years is a welcoming news for the average soldier. At least they will continue to have free accommodation, a paycheck and another chance to go on a UN mission outside the country for the much needed $$$. I believe the government will give them the option to retire after 20 years of service if they choose to. I am not sure how many people are willing to retire at 45, in today's economy where jobs are almost extinct

All of a sudden the meaning of WASSA has changed to West Africa Security Services Association. This is because the Police and other security services have copied everything from the Armed Forces and ironically making it their own. The meaning of WASSA is West Africa Soldiers Social Activity and was adopted by the British to the West African countries/soldiers mainly Ghana and Nigeria. It was and is a merry making activity for soldiers at the end of the year. Please let's not change it. It's for the Armed Forces.
