Unlike Christianity Akan culture and spiritual beliefs do not look down upon women but rather gives them the most important position in society. For women to be submissive to men or bear their husbands names is against Akan culture.

  Here is my two pence: the baby to be born is saddled with debt before coming into this world. If the parents couldn't pay the fine what do you do then and what if the grandparents could not afford the fine fine? Where is the guy who impregnated the teenager? History is replete with stories of how grown men, pastors, teachers, cops, chiefs and people in authority entice or threaten the unsuspecting young ones.
  Education emphasizing the consequences is the key. You know that during the teenage years the raging hormones could deceive the inexperienced teenager. Parents should not shirk their responsibilities of moral education. Get the youth the churches, mosques, traditional institutions involve in a dialogue to avert this canker in the society.

We are becoming retarded because almost most of the men in position of trust in Ghana think every problem in Ghana is caused by the females.
  How can you fine a girl who has been forcibly impregnated by a boy? What nonsense and it can happen only in Ghana. These ignorant chiefs should be barred in Ghana. They have outlived their purpose, we need to ban that institution because they are not progressive.

Anyway, Nana just a gentle whispers in your ears---lashes of teenagers especially, pregnant ones is an abuse, Watch out and be careful. Sorry Nana you have not solve the problem. Perhaps a basic public education in sex education and health interpersonal skills would go a better way and length than you draconian formula. Be careful the youth don't rise against you, Nana. Get them inclusive by discussing their problems in the community. This age is not an age for prescribing it is time to get the patient to understand their illnesses and look for appropriate treatment for the patient. No more the usual ' take this medication it is good for you' . The patient is more interested in the side effects and for how lobg to continue taking the medication otherwise, high level of medication 'non-compliance'
