Nana Addo has made three attempts to be President of Ghana. In each attempt, there was a coterie of people who worked hard to get him elected; failing twice, and succeeding in the third attempt. To solve his cognitive dissonance of putting sycophants to work on several attempts, he has chosen to strike cognitive consistency by awarding political positions to all those who have once helped him in his political foibles. That is to say, Nana has a lot of people to satisfy with political positions. A country like Ghana with such stupendous size of gov't speaks to our immaturity as a nation. Oh no: we just celebrated our 60th anniversary.

Very puzzling to understand Ghanaian ministers are paid more that ministers of developed countries and we go to them to beg for money. Ghanaian ministers have an average of 4 cars in their houses while some ministers in developed countries do not even own a car. They go the work by trains or ride bicycles to work. It is clear we lack direction and vision. The masses will continue to wallow in poverty and the few privileged will always enjoy the national cake.

The deputy ministers are just too much. And in order not to create the situation of a turf war and a jostling for superiority and supremacy in line with some who most certainly have future ambitions, the best approach would be to limit the inconsistency of gov't policy and position on the issues by having a very streamlined team, co-opting the civil service and the use of technology to get the job done.
The immediate past Mahama NDC gov't was so drenched in this state of affairs so much so that, the lack of coherence and consistency exposed and painted the NDC gov't in a very uncharitable light. The Akufo Addo gov't would be minded to avoid those mistakes quite apart from the effect on the public purse.
The onus most definitely lies on those appointed if confirmed, to prove and justify why they were appointed and what they bring to the table in terms of advancing the cause of the Akufo Addo gov't policies and programs and the results or outcomes. It must however be measured and streamlined and having so many deputies ministers in balancing the stakes, doesn't look right.
The gov't machinery is huge and the argument Mustapha Hamid makes to paraphrase him, that having a large team as opposed to a small team which is corrupt makes for efficiency or something to that effect, just doesn't jive well. Most especially when the size of the team has nothing to do with corruption. if it is a corrupt team, no matter the size, corruption will happen, with the notable characteristic being, with a big team also very corrupt, you would have the beginnings of a burgeoning catastrophic disaster totally unprecedented, waiting to happen that would make nonsense of the corruption of a small team.
There is no way the huge number of deputy ministers can be justified and it must be looked at again.
