This is one of the best piece of news to come out of Accra in recent years. I recently travelled to Ghana and when you look at what is happening in places lie Accra it is really sickening. For instance look at the George Bush high way, a very expensive and important road network. There are heavy trucks for sale and damaged ones packed on the side roads with impunity. There have been cases of drivers driving into them with unpleasant consequences. That story can be replicated across the city. Everywhere you go people have erected ugly structures everywhere with little regard for human safety and comfort. Do our laws really work. There is lawlessness everywhere. Go to the central Accra district and would notice wet clothes by the kayayie dried in the mid sections of the road - an eye sore. Someone needs to do something seriously about Accra the capital. Good one AMA.

The annoucement of this massive demolition of unauthorized structures in Accra makes me day-dream of a capital city at long last worthy of the name of "capital city". But alas, being a Ghanaian and knowing very well the corrupt mindsets of Ghanaians, I say to myself that the structures will surely remain where they are or will reappear later as usual. And so I stop dreaming and I say to myself, "the dog barks and makes a lot of noise, but the caravan continues its journey unperturbed". The unauthorized structures will not disappear and Accra will continue to be flooded and and will for ever be filthy, because of our poor mindsets... Mark my words.

Ghanaians will blame the gov't for such demolitions saying people have no work. Pavements are in the hands of toddlers and some shop owners. What a shamefull people.

It is complete eye sore when one sees these places in Accra, as if no clean women in the country. After this demolition, women should be in charge to oversee these places for sanitation purposes. Also, the gov't in partnership with private real estate developers must erect skyline structures (buildings) in these beautiful places. Other than that the slums will be built up again and return.
