The fact that the Journalist survived the beating does not, in and of itself, negate his claim that his beatings lasted for 40 minutes. Unless the Major is privy to particular facts of the incident that the rest of us are not, his utterance could well mean either he is too senile, now, to remember anything about what he learnt as a soldier regarding survivability, or he is just being facetious and intend to defend his military boys at all cost, including smothering the truth.

If the act of beating inflicted upon the Journalist isn't in dispute, why should the length of time that he was subjected to it matter to extract any empathy for him and in condemnation of the act?

This culture of how our Military and Police think they reserve a certain right to gang up on Civilians to brutalize them with impunity must stop. That attitude is not only primitive but also a mark of repression that our modern society should, and would, not condone.

No matter what territorial infringement the Major likes to cite against the Journalist to justify the assault, the Journalist did not deserve to be beaten, and the Military reserves no such right to pound on anyone to pummel, outside the battlefield. Even there are limits as to how the Military should unleash physical harm on their enemies on the battlefield. Human rights insist on that.

The behavior of the Obiri Boahene-led Akufo-Addo's so-called 'Invincible Forces', coupled with such blatant brutalities by some seemingly pro-NPP Soldiers against Journalists are setting the stage for a larger and deeper violent political conflict down the road.

It is time the President began to send the right signals around to dissuade his supporters both in and out of the Military to treat all others with decency. Winning the Presidency does not confer upon the victors any exclusive right and freedom to terrorize others they perceive as opposing their Political cause.
