According to a story on Ghanaweb, "The Eastern regional Secretary of Ghana Journalists Association, Maxwell Kudekor, entreated the Universities in Ghana to collaborate with the media to find solutions to national problems through researches.
He appealed to KTU to offer scholarship opportunities to Journalists to be train[ed] in various academic disciplines, especially Engineering, Environment and Technology to build capacity of journalists to help communicate effectively in these fields to support the industrial drive of the country."
It is time Ghanaian go back to learn from the British and Nigerians when it comes to journalism and this exonerates JB Dankwa's assertion that Ghana was not ripe for independence. Look, in Nigeria journalism is offered for only one year and you cannot use WASSCE Cert to enter their school of Journalism. Their entry requirement is a university degree, HND, Army School Cert, Police College Cert, Charted accountancy Cert, etc, and so by the time an individual completes the one year programme they already have their academic or professional background to work with. This diversifies the field of journalism and brings everybody on board. You see, Ghana is so backward in everything. Thanks to our useless university education that seeks to suppress polytechnic graduates at all cost.

Omane, your analysis is flawed. It is true that not everybody have access to internet or go register online for his or her passport but let compare the two scenarios and judge: A client has to move to Accra to acquire a biometric passport, even most at times they will tell you to go and come the next day and the frustration associated with it, then the other scenario is instead of travelling to Accra, the individual can locate a nearby area where there is access to internet and the cafe attendant can be of help.

Decentralising passport offices should even be at district level not regional. That said, restricting people to only on-line version is wholly disproportionate. Prosecuting the fraudsters and the rampant corrupt officials is an absolute cure to this intractable problem. Manual version must still be maintained as an option. Do not forget, internet cafe owners can easily have access to peoples sensitive and personal records.

On line application or manual application the Ghanaian passport officers who are very greedy and very very corrupt will block things at the end of the on line process for applicants to go down to the offices to give them bribes. They will create artificial hitches and invite applicants to their offices to give them bribes. They will use fraudulent means to embezzle amounts sent by applicants on line. If Dr Bawumia really wants to tackle the problems at the passport office,he must lay off all the corrupt officers over there and INVENT a revolutionary SYSTEM that will be CoRRUPTION FREE !

Vice-president Dr. Bawumia should stick to his favorite sphere where he rules the day and leave other professional areas to those who pretend to be experts in their areas of education. We have had dumsor for years even while there are Ghanaians who sell themselves as scientists and double E's or mechanical E's. We are still looking for supplemental energy sources while our skin get roasted by the sun but it never dorned on any policy maker how to seriously mandate the sun as a preferred energy source.
Does anyone in the NPP believe in paperless/electronic government systems? The answer is no. The NPP is a party that never believed in electronic footprints that will come back to bite them in the crooked ass. If Vice-president Bawumia is serious about online/electronic passport application processes he should do it the right way and not half ass like things the NPP and NDC have done all over Ghana in the almost 30 years of the two-party system. To do it right Ghana must have a reliable land based optic fiber backbone network system that is secured and has built-in alternate routing option should the main lines between any two major sections be interrupted by cuts or natural disaster. A passport applicant in Tamale must be able to call any regional or the Accra passport head office and get an answer on his/her application status in a minute. This can happen only when the network system is complete and comprehensive; nothing else will do. By the way the NPP does not and will not have any money left for infrastructure development when they get through with buying new cars for their undereducated, uneducated and educated but ignorant followers currently clamoring for every job and personal asset in Ghana along with their free school while elephant of an idea.
