Also, our universities are overpopulated and not resourced to encourage learning. Some students have to stand outside at Legon during lectures. Our libraries have the same antiquated books and our lecturers use the information they have had since 25 years ago to teach.

We have tertiary education problems but most SA universities have lecturers from Ghana and Nigeria. On President issue Zuma has no degree SA is enjoying benefits of apartheid majority of lecturers still white.

It is a reflection of what is going on in the country. The politicians and the body politic are corrupt, the universities do not carry out any meaningful research, professors just want titles and do not do research and publish articles even though they are always agitating for research allowances. University lectures spend more time in the fellows gardens drinking than on any academic materials. Theirs is to go and teach twice a week and the rest of the time they are lobbying for government jobs where they can make quick money. Most of them want to be rich without doing much. I applaud the few Ghanaian lecturers who are able to get real research grants from independent funding agencies. We should not be surprised if the Ghanaian Universities are not counted among the best in Africa. Why the craze for 4 X 4s, when you really don't need them on regular roads. We have all our priorities wrong. During my undergraduate days at Legon a handful of my lecturers engaged in research and one of such people inspired me to become a biomedical researcher in US. I still get NIH support for my research even though only about 20% of granted applications are funded. We need to do things differently. Craving for free stuff is killing us.
