Countries like America,China,Brazil,Argentina,Australia,South Africa,Angola and Gabon have all recognized the revenue and employment potential of meat(beef&Poultry) production and have created meat production industries to supply the multi billion dollar global demand for meat.Even Indians who do not eat beef have a major beef export industry.Ghana need to be serious about reorganizing and upgrading our food and meat production industries.Agric in Ghana employs 70% of our working population and yet we treat it almost as an afterthought.The government must take the lead by investing in low cost ranches to corral all animals so that we can begin to create a professional meat production industry in Ghana.There shouldn't be herds of cows roaming through farms and towns in 21st century Ghana when barbed wire fencing is all that is needed to turn a nonfarming lands into Goat/cow ranches.Ranchers may build a small Kiosk or even a tent to shield himself from the elements.This is just a low cost ,easy to do,ready to go project to seriously launch Ghana into commercial meat production industry.Why are we waiting?

Osibisa, dogs can be pets and be killed for food. My grandmother had a sheep that she could give commands to and the animal was her pet. But in reality, sheep should be meat. What one takes as a pet is a matter of choice.

But consider it this way, the Americans and the Europeans eat FROGS and snakes while we Ghanaians will never want to have anything to do with FROGS OR SNAKES. The fact that people from the middle and southern Ghanaian regions hates this dog thing as a delicacy, the same thing cannot be said of the people from the Three Northern Regions. People around the world consume different things so long as they do not impact their health in any way. Not sure why Ghanaians continue to live with the notion that cow meat is better than dog meat or any other meat, it is totally wrong to have that mentality. If the Chinese and Koreans like dog meat, what is wrong with setting up a factory to export to them? If the French like frogs what is stopping us from breeding the best frogs in the world and exporting it to them? There are so many animals that we could breed for export, most notably, python and crocodile, whose skin are highly sought after in the fashion industry; their meat are apparently so nutritious too.

A lot can be done with all kinds of things - both plants and animals, but certainly it is barbaric to think of wholesale production and processing of DOG and CAT meat.

What kind of signals or image will be painted about the country, to the outside world. Even the local "slaughtering" of dogs and/or cats, as so-call "delicacy" within some ethnic groups, as it happens currently is considered barbaric and primitive in the Western world.

Nobody should think of starting any feasibility studies on such a "non-starter" project. If this is what they had in mind, as 1 project-1 district, then it is a failure.

I doubt whether the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (i.e., Animal Production Directorate and Veterinary Services Directorate) will ever approve of such. The whole proposition and talk about production and processing of dogs and/or cats makes me very sick to my stomach.

There are many, many animals out there which can be domesticated and raised for meat, so spare the dogs and/or cats. The fact that a few people are eating such fine animals (companion of human beings) does not mean that Anthony Abaayifa Karbo should open his mouth and make such lousy utterances.
