Abdul Majeed Waris played the entire game as Cameroon captain Benjamin Moukandjo scored the lone goal in Lorient’s victory against Caen at the Stade Yves Allainmat on Sunday.
The victory was the second straight win for Les Merlus and it pushed them from the bottom of the table into 19th position above Bastia.
Lorient have won just eight games out of 31 matches in Ligue 1 all season where they have spent the bulk of the time rooted to the bottom of the log.
The 3-2 away win against Nancy before the international break snapped their five game losing streak that stretched back to February 12.
Waris has scored seven goals for his side in Ligue 1 this season while Moukandjo has 10 goals.
With seven matches left in the season, Lorient would hope to escape relegation on the back of their African strike force.
They are tied on 28 points with 18th-placed Nancy while Dijon have 29 points in 17th spot. However, Lorient will face hard hitters Olympique Lyon, who are chasing a Uefa Europa League spot, next weekend.
