Hmmm. This is going no where. Hope w do you attract foreign investors. Am not for the idea that even a foreigner who's company is 100% Ghanaian can't get a contract to print exercise books. Let's not harm our drive to boost foreign investment. This should be about quality, meeting targets and ability to print volumes that will always ensure there is no shortage of printing. What is wrong with a foreigner who's company is 100% Ghanaian employed lose out on winning awards for printing exercise books etc if they can get the government value for money, quality, meet targets, cope with demand and also offer jobs to Ghanaians . Not forgetting paying taxes to support the government.
How will the government feel when the very same treatment they intend to impose on foreigner are done to Ghanaians abroad.
Let's not go down the busia regime of government which seems what the shadow NPP government who are hijacking nana Addos government doing. It will cripple our country . If we look at industrialisation in ghana the very best is by foreigners way before Ghanaians went into that sector. Syrians, Indians, Greeks, Lebanese and many more. But they all employed Ghanaians not their citizens and this drive brought great industrialistation across our country. Let's not go down the line if no contracts for foreigners.
Let the Ghanaians compete with foreigners to improve our quality of industry in ghana. Let's take stock of industries in our country , what percentage are Ghanaians and foreigners who have established quality assured great business paying taxes and offering employment to Ghanaians.

Kwaku Duah be careful.
I read comments when I see a strong case made for local entrepreneurs.
Going through the response here, and somewhat chanced on your ill-thought submission.
I own an engineering company in Europe, I wouldn't mention which country.
Do you understand the difficulty is it for foreigners competing against their companies even if you offer the best services.
I won't get much into the details - but be very cautious how you analyses cases as this one.
When you migrate to Europe and you find it hard to gain work; you will realize how loose your comment about awarding contract to foreigners was and the effect thereof it played against you.
I can't even stash my foreign with more €20K a month.
And do you understand why?
Do control the local currency and stabilize their economies.
So by your reasoning it's good to award contract to foreign companies even though they have Ghanaians as workers. Funny!
Because of the poor regulatory policy on open source account; where open source means the ability of these companies to easily transfer monies or stash monies into their foreign account.
Our currency suffers, leaving banks with low lending rate, and by low lending rate - businesses can't expand, and when businesses can't expand; they don't employ new workers and in some cases put old employees on redundancy.
If you don't understand the economics of modern times, you likely will spew submission like this.
If you generate sustainable working environment for businesses to flourish without been dependent on outside for help or substitute, you grow your economy.
Meaning, your finances gain some balance and in time you start competing well on the stock market.
I could go on and on.
But next time, don't encourage things you don't understand and know.
Ghana first!!

As for your reference to the Busia regime, l say nothing about it since l lived thru it and saw things by myself. May l ask you this quest: HOW MANY TIMES HAVE THE GREEKS, SYRIANS, LEBANESE AND ALL THOSE YOU MENTIONED AWARDED CONTRACTS TO GHANAIANS UP AND ABOVE THEIR CITIZENS?

How could you dare suggest that Ghanaians should be made to compete with foreigners in our own country! You must be off your trolley. And how many Ghanaian businesses would be allowed to operate in Syria or Lebanon? You must be barking mad. If we don't encourage and nurture home-grown businesses how on earth are we going to lift ourselves out of the doldrums we find ourselves? It simply isn't enough for foreign owned businesses to offer employment, the ownership should be targeted at Ghanaians to help stem the tide of capital flight out of the country.

Thank you Dr! This policy should be a law in the Ghana. No Western country will award a foreign country a contract more importantly like African contractors. African countries will not even know where to find contract applications. So, how there Ghana law makers never had a common sense to award all contracts to domestic contractors? Although, they may have 1000 reasons, the benefits will still outweigh those reasons. Stop awarding contract to Chenise and others. Let get back to our sense and get closer look at this to ensure our people are serve equitable.

My bro Kwame, foreigners who own businesses in Ghana make their profits in cedis, which they cannot take back to their countries. They must first convert the cedis into, say, dollars before taking it away - that is where the problem pokes it's ugly head. The government and money markets do not have an insatiable mountain of dollars to give to all these foreigners. A Ghanaian entrepreneur, on the other hand, will keep all his cedis in the country thereby allowing or freeing up the government to retain the little dollars it has for other developmental purposes. The long term effect is that the government will be able to save a lot in it's reserves; it won't have to go round borrowing money at exorbitant interest rates as was characteristic of the NDC government, the cost of borrowing from the local banks will eventually drop because businesses and government are no longer competing for money. This is good news because wherever possible we should strive for the money made in Ghana to stay in Ghana!
Of course the jobs created isn't for only NPP sympathisers, what he meant was that they have the mandate from the people who voted for them to carry out these policies. Don't forget that a lot of NDC supporters voted for NPP so everything they do includes them as well, but let's not get bogged down in any distractions - what matters is the benefit to the whole country irrespective of who voted for them.

This cannot work. It's government contract for schools that should be given to local printers as the NDC government was doing. However if any other company is here printing for the open market you can't stop them. Do you know the demand for exercise books? Printing exercise books is not so profitable and most of the local companies will shun it. Unless they have huge capital to import the materials from abroad which brings us to the same point, our money going to foreigners. The minister is being populist without being briefed the details. I'm not for foreigners printing our books but if we rush with this thing there will be severe shortage of books in the system that can affect education. For the time being we must work hand in hand and encourage people to invest in industries because in Ghana rich people are more interested in retail business which is quickly more profitable than manufacturing. But for now the few Ghanaian owned printing firms are not powerful enough to meet our demand.

The idea of Ghanaians first in terms of awarding government contracts is quite laudable but dangerous at the same time. Nationalism is practically done in most countries to boost local industries in order to reduce importation which is actually not healthy to economic growth. Excellent GDP is always testimonial to good economic growth and therefore the encouragement of our local manufacturers is a splendid concept only if contracts are not awarded on political affiliations. This is where the danger lies. With the ongoing political witch hunting in our country, what is the guarantee that all Ghanaians are going to be treated equally when these government contracts are been awarded to our local manufacturers ? The only solution to this problem is to go the Nkrumah way. Establishment of state owned industries to compete with private ones is the only solution. In this case, awarding of contracts would be omitted. Most of the industries which were established by Dr Nkrumah are shamefully abandoned and taken over by reptiles and all kinds of animals so why can't we revive them quickly to give gainful employment to the suffering masses ? We already have the sites so all what is needed are the machines to be replaced and get structures renovated. The establishment of new industries is recommendable but let us focus on the ones which already exists but need just need revival. We already have State Publishing at Tema to print all our educational materials so what are we dragging about ? All state owned companies sold by previous governments to family and friends must be taken back by this new administration as most of them were illegal acquired by their present owners. A typical example is the great Nsawam Cannery sold to Nana Agyeman Konadu by her husband. JJ Rawlings is my main man but I totally disagree with him for what he shamefully did. Please let us put politics aside and support the new regime to bring hope to the hopeless and life to the lifeless. I am an Nkrumaist and I don't belong to a particular political party." I ONLY BELONG TO OSAGYEFO DR KWAME NKRUMAH'S DREAM FOR MOTHER AFRICA ".

I think I am beginning to feel some positive sense in these ministers. Some sensible people are appearing on our political scene. Well done. These are some of the drastical and tactical decisions that we experience abroad.

This government is supposed to attract foreign investment. How is this going to attract anyone? Competition is the key to success and if Ghana wants to succeed, it must attract every $ it can to create jobs.
Sad to think that this man would choose local company without necessary skills employing 5 people over a foreign owned company that can deliver and has hundreds of Ghanaians employed. This just doesn't seem right.
