  He was busy building infrastructure - the community SHS - and sorting out the problems in our education system, including schools under trees.

  I fully agree with the comments of the MP against any interference of the government the Scholarship Secretariat. Certainly the secretariat should be governed by independent intellectuals and good administrators.

  It still has not dawned on us that a major key to a strong economy is prudence in public expenditure.The establishment of the Scholarship Secretariat was necessary soon after independence for accelerated manpower development.
  Sixty years of independence and with almost every academic or technical programme on offer locally,it is untenable to commit heavy amounts of scarce state resources to sponsor large armies of children and wards of politicians and prominent Ghanaians on courses overseas.Is there any justification in state sponsorship of Ghanaians to pursue the first law degree in London?
  We cannot justify this wastage of resources.We however still bag scholarships from countries which can afford to help indigent nations like Ghana and we should take advantage of such offers to train in important programmes that are not available locally.
