They should allow the manpower to work. The whole problem is that goverment is chaeting the chiefs and the kings on less they pay them as well they paid themselfs because they are the key owners of everything in these land ghana it does not belongs to politicians but they pay themself well how come the owner who fought for their land a plitician can be a foriegner he can be anybody but the owner is dieying of hungry while they using luxurios cars houses recieving pension pays exgratia is it not chaeting ? the farmer whose works tireless to cater for you politician is hungry.they must also recieved pension pay too if not they would contineun selling the lands to them. The laws favour others not ohters. The chiefs are asleep when they wake up it would be deferent thing everyday for thief man one day for owner. National house of chiefs and their kings must wake up. Monkey dey work bamboo dey chop agenda must stop.

  Surely, it is not enough to just evict the Galamseyers. They might have well caused a lot of mess, and that mess ought to be fixed before it develops into something worse.

  Surely, it is not enough to just evict the Galamseyers. They might have well caused a lot of mess, and that mess ought to be fixed before it develops into something worse.
  
  The Land that was irresponsibly excavated and polluted with various toxic chemicals must be reclaimed in full. The various pits must be firmly filled up and the Soil must be decontaminated.
  
  In some cases, if the concentration of toxic substances in the soil exceeds a certain threshold, the whole area would have to be designated as either a Brownfield area or something more critical like the Superfund Site of the USA, assuming the Government of Ghana would follow up with funding to help reclaim those areas.
  
  The EPA in Ghana must be put to work to immediately go around all sites that Galamsey is known to have occurred to test the Soil for possible contamination and advice the Government on what measures to be taken.
  
  Meanwhile, some of those areas that were heavily polluted may have to be fenced in to prevent entrants getting contaminated. No building of any structures there, no farming activities there, either.
  
  Streams and other bodies of water in the affected areas would have to be tested and monitored to ensure safe usage by people living around and depending on them.

  The most critical aspect of surface mining/small scale mining/galamsey or whatever one wants to call it, is reclamation of the destroyed land and environment.
  It is at the core of the totality of the mining process in this case galamsey. Destroying the environment and the land in search of minerals is the easy part as it is with many a process, but reclaiming the land is the most difficult. There has never been a greater impetus for this aspect of the galamsey menace, to be addressed than ever before. Indeed, it is a crucial exercise that requires the greatest focus by the relevant institutions and technocrats working in tandem urgently with all the resources that can be mustered to address this problem. The Environment Ministry, the EPA, the Agriculture Min, the Forestry Commission, the Geological Survey Department, the Minerals Commission, etc, etc would all need to come up with a robust plan to address reclamation efforts arising from the effects of galamsey activities.
  If the very process of small scale mining or galamsey as it is called, were to have a very comprehensive and exhaustive guidelines and mechanisms codified into law with robust enforcement, we would not have this problem. In the absence of any such anelaborate system a vacuum is created for all sorts of things to go on. Then we blame the Chinese, Politicians, Pastors, etc, etc for taking advantage of the vacuum to wreck havoc to the environment for our own lack of effort to create the kind of system that ensures the environment is protected from such surface mining activities.
  We cannot continue doing the same things over and over again and expect different results. It is time to fundamentally address the issue of surface mining and reclamation in this country with the view of protecting the environment and leaving it for generations yet unborn in a decent manner just as it was left to us. We must do better.
