Therefore a mall is not likely to impress most. If some people are excited, it's probably due to the opportunity to have convenient shopping and recreation under one roof, rather than the prospect of seeing a mall for the first time. Accra is ahead of Kumasi? Maybe so, but that shouldn't come as a surprise, because Kumasi is a self-made city (so to speak), while successive governments have concentrated national resources in Accra. In any case if you think Accra is a gem, my advice to you is simple: travel and see.
