  If small scale miners had formed the association long ago,what is happening now wouldn't have come to them.But they didn't recognize it to form a strong association to fight for their cause.If they have formed this association long ago,these Chinese and quarks galamsayers wouldn't have gotten the chance to infiltrate into their business easily like that.They should let their voices be heard and let Ghanaians know the difference between small scale miners and 'galamsey' operators since most people doesn't know the difference.Good to know that you've now established a secretariat

  Wontumi and other NPP members did all that they could to thwart efforts by the former government when fighting the galamasey menace by using all kinds of NPP tacticks. It was even rumored that some deported Chinese nationals were smuggled back into the country by this irresponsible regional chairman of the elephant party to continue destroying our land and water bodies in such of gold. Having succeeded in getting power after deceiving the small scale miners for their votes, the NPP is now stabbing the backs of these small scale miners. What a wicked political party? Just like the wicked ways their late fathers and uncles did to Dr Kwame Nkrumah before 24the february 1966 coup detat. They will always rely on lies to achieve their selfish ends! Shame on them!

  There are laws that protect our water bodies. One is not expected to clear a farm land direct into a stream or river or clear the water source. Unfortunately the type of mines that has polluted our rivers/streams, forcing Ghana Water Company to shut down some of their treatment plants is known as 'Alluvial Mining". Alluvial mining is done in rivers/streams and within floodplains. I wonder why the EPA has stand aloof for such activities, notwithstanding the laws to protect our rivers, for such activities to go on. Look at river Offin, Ankobrah, Prah, Tano. If care is not taking, Ghana will import water within the next 8 years to service Ghanaians. We should all blame the Environmental Protection Agency and the Mines Department especially the Minerals Commission.
