Please let's look at how our Mining and Environment laws and institutions can be over hauled for proper functioning in Ghana. You need a Mines inspectorate with the necessary oversight and powers to bring Mining Companies to book like what happens in strong mining countries like South Africa, Australia, Chile, Argentina etc. I doubt our current bureaucratic institutions like Minerals Commission , Environmental Protection Agency have the teeth to transform the mining sector. Problems with galamsey also exist with stone quarries, sand winning, salt mining etc in Ghana. Get right mix of technical and legal persons to run these institutions. For too long Minerals Commission has been a cosy job doing press conferences, attending conferences all over the world and in the pockets of the mining companies . Need a real change there.

Peter I admire you for the work done. Your work is most difficult for the fact that it could displace jobs and some people are not going to like that. On the flip side look at the evil of destruction of the vegetation, soil, water bodies and the chemical pollution of the land and rivers, the accompanying poisoning that could transfer to the masses and the health cost. I think the reporter and the Minister must all learn. No small scale miner is ever given any Prospecting Licence. Prospecting Licence is only given to large scale companies which could either be local or foreign controlled. ...

Prospecting Licence is only given to large scale companies which could either be local or foreign controlled. Conditions for the Prospecting Licence are stated in the licence. You should learn and allow yourself to be taught and stop disgracing the mining fraternity.
