As far as the British High Commission is concerned, the privilege was abused. If she went to apply the usual way this whole issue about overstaying after being issued a 17-day visa would not have been an issue.

You won't be given a visa if you applied for a 2-year visa so most people ask for one that the whiteman will find plausible. Years ago you could apply for an EXTENSION on arrival in the UK (which I did) these days there are no avenues to apply for genuine extensions because you haven't visited Buckingham palace yet!!
So the ECOs at the High Commission revisit your file and application and get mischievious with it.

Have you also noticed they were all Brong or Ahafo MPs and I also lived there in my teenage years?

In my opinion, this lady is telling lies. The first question is, was she not aware that she must return to Ghana according to right and form for obtaining a tourist visa to the UK? There are guide lines in obtaining visa to visit foreign countries, and anyone who applies for visa are schooled on the guidelines. To visit Ghana if one is not a Ghanaian, there are guide lines to follow, and this lady is aware. She knew what she was doing. There are thousands of Ghanaians who are staying in the UK illegally.
