At an opportunity to ask a question, this woman ranted and ranted without a head or tail till everyone started murmuring and the moderator asked her to end there. From there on I vowed never to employ someone from UPS. The "professor" was a disgrace.

SCI, EI. ...? impact factor are sometimes cooked by the journals. if you do not cite their papers they will reject your manuscript meaning a journal with an impact factor does not really mean its articles are good. for your information lecturers are promoted not only on the number of publications but in three areas. service to the community, promotion of knowledge and promotion of teaching/learning. on the issue of graduates from tertiary institution not performing, i think we should blame ourselves. instead of asking our politicians to resource our schools, the misuse funds and when they are caught, we defend their wrong doings. which of our universities has hplc or gc-ms but you expect them to work as magicians. let us stop these hypocrisy and learn to be truthful. if you do not know please ask. besides i would like to advise the university authorities to stop buying those pickups and set their priorities right.

When a person is saying something that is good and instead of supporting what she is saying, you are attacking her. Private universities in Ghana charge too high fees and this could be one of the reasons. Affiliation fees are too high, therefore, making them charge very high fees.
Private Universities are to help us absorb those who could not get the chance to enter public universities but not to over burden our parents with their high fees.

Great insight.

I am wondering what the real value of affiliation is to the private colleges and the students that attend them. If the students are being sacked because they entered with unqualified grades then both the public and their affiliated private institutions are failing in their jobs and wasting the precious times of several students.

Neither is doing their homework of ensuring that the entry requirements are being met. The private institutions are in the business of education to make money and may be tempted to overlook a lot of things so I don't expect them to complain when things go awry. The only problem is that it takes too long to bring the bad news to the affected students and that is awful. Personally I would advocate for all monies spent by the students up to the time they are sacked should be refunded to the students. The affiliation system should set the time limit for detection and sacking. In fact if the cooperating institutions cannot advise students within one year as to their qualifications then they should be allowed to graduate without any hindrances.

The key problem with the third world is that we focus too much on degrees and certificates as opposed to one's ability to do their job and do it efficiently. There have been inventors and creators who had little or no formal education at all. It is about time we scratch the copycat from our colonial masters and figure out our own approach to doing things.

Shouldn't you be asking the private institutions why they are failing their students? Isn't that an indication that the private institutions aren't doing their job as educators? Goski should keep a low profile. It appears every time she makes public appearance, her credentials are questioned. There are so many young professors like her who are doing so well but stay focused on work and keep low profile until it is really necessary. Their work speak for themselves.

She should realize she is about the only professor whose credentials are always questioned whenever she appears in public. Ghanaians are discerning, and it's unfortunate her students always appear here to defend her but write so poorly, which speaks volumes of their training. I do feel sorry for her.

Substandard indeed. She needs to chill!!!
