It is only in lawless and backward countries these types of things go on unchecked.

I do not think the manufacturers of Adonko bitters have done anything wrong to deserve its ban and a fine. In every product, there is a warning on it for whoever buys the product. Like cigarette, for example in US and other countries, it is stated "smoking causes cancer", sometimes it states "those who are pregnant should not smoke"; so knowing it causes cancer and injury to the pregnant woman and someone buys it and smokes it, it is the choice of the one buying it and not the responsibility of the manufacturers. Whoever smokes chooses to. In the case of Adonko bitters, a warning is clearly stated on the bottle that "drink responsibly". So it is the choice of whoever buying it to drink responsibly (using your common sense). If whoever buys it decides (at his own choice knowing the warning on the label) decides to consume the whole bottle instead of being conscious in drinking it, it is that person's choice and the manufacturers are not liable. Everyone knows Akpeteshie or beer if consumed in large quantities, can overtake you, so it is the choice of those who buy them not the manufacturers. I think the Angel Group of Companies, the manufacturer of Adonko bitters can go to court to seek redress and I believe they can win this case.

These are all "akpeteshie" drink bottled and labelled as bitters. Instead of going to the old "akpeteshie" bars to drink one tot, you can now buy a bottle labelled as bitters, carry home and get booze in bed.

I think there is something these FDA guys are not telling us for the sake of protecting the company's reputation. If it's only about the public getting drunk I think they would have imposed a fine but to go ahead and ban the product itself, slap a fine and withdraw their licence tells you how serious the offense is. I strongly suspect the drink may contain something harmful to consumers' health hence the ban yet for the sake of the company's reputation they've decided not to divulge such info to the public. Ghanaians, stop consuming these alcoholic beverages your own good.
