  I am more inclined to believe it is 20 percent of Ghanaians who are hard working. The 80 percent Adei refers to, are the slackers. The malingerers, the gold brickers. The public sector is particularly bad in this attitude dilemma in Ghana. It begins with our collective lack of respect for time. Then it is aggravated by the hiring of redundant numbers of employees. Our whole system is infused with this problem.

  Professor Adei, this is a very SERIOUS MATTER that goes to the HEART of Development of the Country and we MUST speak to FACTS and not CONJECTURE. On the STREETS, people will SPEAK LIKE THAT and we permit it and NOT REACT to it.
  
  But when Professor Adei, SPEAKS, particularly, about Issues that relate to the Economy, Ghanaians listen and take it seriously.
  
  The statement that "80% of Ghanaians are hardworking" is TOTALLY NOT TRUE and NOT based on any SCIENTIFIC Data or POLL. It is simply wishing to heard.
  
  If you really know what goes on in the OFFICES of Public Institutions you would not put Productive or Hardworking personnel above 20% as one blogger posted.
  
  I went to the offices of GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY near CIRCLE, one day with an Investor and it was so embarrassing the Investor looked at my face and mumbled something.
  
  We had an appointment for 11:00 AM and got there at 10:55 AM. 4 of the 5 people we were to meet with had NOT shown up at work. The one person who was there, was sitting at his Desk and READING a NEWSPAPER. And the visitors' Lounge was filled to Capacity.
  
  On the FLOOR we were on, I did not encounter more than 5 workers, out of about 80 doing any work. Some where still eating Breakfast suggesting they had barely arrived. Others were reading Newspapers and MOST were chatting among themselves.
  
  Because most of the people we were to meet with were not in that day, the meeting was re-scheduled for the following day and the situation was the same.
  
  There is CLEARLY NO SUPERVISION. The Supervisor either was NOT yet in or Reading a Newspaper or Chatting or Working Lotto Numbers. Where then lies his MORAL AUTHORITY to SPEAK to anything unproductive and supervise?
  
  The unfortunate SAD TRUTH is that Ghanaians in the Public Sector are NOT as Productive as they can be. Most of it, however, DERIVES from lack of Supervision, Inadequate Supervision and Supervisors WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE ABOUT.
  
  Unless we find Managers who know what they are about or Supervisors who have what it takes to EFFECTIVELY SUPERVISE, nothing is going to Change.
  
  Most WEEK_ENDS start from Thursday night or Friday Morning. And when there is a FUNERAL that involves an employee, work is almost at a stand still.
  
  All some of us can do is TALK about this. But NO COUNTRY DEVELOPS with such WORK ETHIC or the lack thereof.
  
  EVEN in the more DEVELOPED Nations, Work is taken more seriously and workers work Harder.
  
  So therefore, it just doesn't make sense that a nation like ours that is TRYING to Develop and CATCH UP with the more developed ones will rather work less.
  
  I hope the President is NOT ONLY talking about this but will have a STRATEGIZED PLAN of ACTION to address it. OTHERWISE, WE 'AIN'T' GOING NOWHERE.
  
  This is ONE problem we cannot just talk about or PRAY over. SOMETHING NEEDS to BE DONE ABOUT it and it has to be IMMEDIATE. We cannot simply expect Attitudes to change by merely talking about it or having the same 'NON-PERFORMING SUPERVISORS in Charge without any RE-ORIENTATION.

Folks beware of these scammers. Scammers the more you do this, the shorter your life on this earth.

  So the example at the top is abysmal at best.
  How many judges show up on time?
  These examples do not happen in the private sector. Even kayayei show up on time. So, Prof, no need to be politically correct. Our leadership stinks to the high heavens.
  In addition to lateness, our leaders have crafted laws that legalize theft. Laws that enable them to purchase state property at token prices, be they cars or houses. A whole speaker left with stolen curtains and furniture. Big time shame.
  Nana should start the change at Flagstaff house and the ministries and then can preach to the rest of us. Otherwise it is another "ANIMAL KINGDOM"
