Just imagine the huge money involved, even the person in the middle of this issue has said he will pay the money and so I don’t understand why those around him are fighting for him. “A person who does not have the nation at heart has issued dud cheques to an institution which is against the laws of the country. “Our party is in power now and we have the majority hand in parliament and so if the NDC are not comfortable when people are punished for squandering states money then the majority should make a law that will see to it that all those who are against such act and are always talking about political witch hunting are transferred to the Gambaga witch camp because they are all witches and don’t want the country to move forward” he said.

When will NPP learn that short fixes are temporary and will eventually be counter-productive. So far as Ghana continues to specialize in commodity goods such as natural resources and extractive products they stand to lose in this battle.

The truth which most economists in Ghana do not want to acknowledge is the income elasticity for commodity goods which Ghana continues to specialize in have been exponentially and consistently low.

Second these exports also value less on the International market which by and large determines the vibrancy and value of the exchange rate of the Cedi. Third, these commodity goods also are less valuable as compared to their processed counterparts on the International market. Four Ghana can only redeem itself if it can add value to the myriad of natural resources it commands. Ghana could do itself a favor by having a diversified export portfolio with the widest range of unique sophisticated processed goods that fully satisfy the needs and wants of international and domestic consumers.

Five, such a wide range of processed goods will protect Ghana from global economic shocks which are inevitable and are here to stay as a result of the advent of globalization. Six, this will boost the GDP of Ghana and exponentially increase the Cedi vis-a-vis other foreign currencies. Seven, the standard of living will then improve significantly.

None of these actions has been taken and stabilizing the Cedi has been a nightmare for every Ghanaian administration including NPP. NPP will lose big time if they cannot successfully resolve this issue.

NPP needs to understand that permanently stabilizing the Cedi involves more than quick fixes. It involves the diversification of the export mix and trading between Ghana and international consumers. The more value added goods and services international consumers purchase the greater the value of the Cedi. These goods have to meet the threshold of meeting fully the needs and wants of such consumers.

Any deviation from this will result to a mediocre stabilization of the Cedi.

THIS ROBES THE COUNTRY OF VITAL RESOURCES AND THE FIGURES ARE COLOSSAL. WE ALL KNOW HOW MUCH THE STATE LOSES AT THE PORTS ALONE AND THIS HAS NOT SEIZED BUT IT TAKES A SERIOUS POLITICAL WILL TO NIP THIS CANKER IN THE BUD AS WE AS A PEOPLE ARE AT THE CENTRE OF IT.
