In which of the three Francophone countries surrounding Ghana, which you referred to, is Hausa an official language? How many Togolese or Burkinabes or Ivorians
speak Hausa? The President gave very good reasons to support his view that French should be compulsory in schools. On the other hand, Kwesi Pratt's grounds for Hausa to introduced as a compulsory subject are spurious. In Ghana, Hausa is the language of mainly the Zongo community, and other parts in the North. Even in Nigeria where Hausa is widely spoken in the North, the Government wouldn't consider it wise to make the study of the language compulsory. Go and tell a Yoruba in Nigeria to accept Hausa as a compulsory subject in Nigerian schools, Kwesi Pratt, Mr Know All, and listen to what he will tell you. He will tell you that you are out of your mind. Why should Hausa be imposed on Ghanaian school children? Of what use would Hausa be to them in their future interactions in the international community?

Interestingly enough, less than 30% of the residents here speak the hausa language. Predominant in towns like bawku, bolga, paga, wa, walewale and zebila. Surprisingly, hausa is widely spoken in Ashanti region than in the northern region. You travel across the borders and you realize the language is well known only at the borders than the inner towns and cities. How then is hausa having more international appeal than French? Mr Pratt pls come again.

Such a person is so ready to oppose such that he forgets to think before talking. I don't think kwesi really mean what he was saying. He was just opposing a great idea. Just be a bit exposed and you will the benefits of speaking both English and French. The funny thing is that because English dominates the world, we the English speaking countries feel good and don't see the need to learn French. The French on the other hand tries to speak English so that he can survive in America and England. The problem is anytime we compete with these guys they end up taking the big jobs because they are internationally bilingual. Nana is smart and always want Ghana ahead. Watch Nana carefully. He is going to be African president by default.

The case for Hausa is supported by NPP Stalwarts like Lawyer Zwirnes, J.A. Kuffuor and many others. The secret behind advancement in political, economic and scientific relevance is found in language. Why do you think that tiny England ensured that English got spoken all over the world even in China? Think of how Swahili has bonded East Africans, and how Arabic has bonded North Africans.
In west Africa, what do we have that is an indigenous language but spoken from Mauritania all the way to Gabon? Hausa. Even in Chad, West Sudan (Darfur) and Mali, you'll find Hausa used in Commerce.
But for those who think the white man's language remains supreme, we will read more condemnations of Pratt's suggestion yet.

And Hausa is certainly not the dominant language in West Africa, you have Senegal and the Gambia that speak mostly Wolof, Libera and Sierra Leone, creole and various other Vernaculars, such as Temne in Sierra Leone; Ghana various dialects with Akan dominating; Nigeria you have Yoruba, Ibo,Hausa etc; The predominant group in Burkina is the Mossi; Mali, Chad, Mauritania, speaks various ethnic dialects etc. Guinea Conakry speaks Soso, etc. Please stop the miseducation.
