Uber is not a transport company but a technology corporation that connects riders to drivers on an online platform, General Manger of Uber Sub-Saharan Africa, Alon Lits has expounded.
According to Mr. Lits, Uber is an open and none exclusive platform, which welcomes all who want to use the app to increase their chances for profit, adding that many taxi drivers are already using the technology to boost their incomes.
This is in response to Local taxi drivers who claimed that they have been thrown out of business since the ride-hailing company entered the Ghanaian transport industry in June, 2016.
Mr. Lits further explained that the Uber Company does not own cars or employ drivers, but rather works with driver-partners who voluntarily enroll on the platform to maximize their chances of making profit.
‘Uber is a technology company, not a transportation company, we don’t own any car or employ any driver. There are two sides of the app, first of all, for riders who want drivers and for drivers who want riders’ Mr. Lit noted.
Meanwhile the Sub-Saharan General Manager of Uber averred that the company has been fully compliant with all tax and industry regulations of the country, adding that Uber signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the previous government.
