Instead of relying on IMF and Chinese loans, mining should be seen as an opportunity to get Tax revenue to develop country.Mining companies like Gold Star and Newmont only benefit foreign shareholders. They have private run way and jets to take gold out of the country and government doesn't know how much they taken out. Government sign bad deals and end up going to IMF to borrow money. The same shareholders money goes to IMF and IMF loans it to Ghana.Please stop demonizing Gallamseyers, instead give them an area they can mine, best practice and tax them.
Government shouldn't set-up factories because they will collapse, just create policies for entrepreneurs to exploit. Even marijuana and other drugs are being legalised in EU and Americas. Ghanaians are being deported from states, killed in Libya cos of bad government decisions. There will always be externalities in economic activities, it's how you manage them that matters.
Nkrumah done this Aluminium thing and it didn't work. Ghana has power deficit, it can not support Aluminium industry.Concentrate on smaller tasks, and accomplish them, rather than grand white elephants. A mixed economy is sustainable.
