  Minerals Commission is a useless regulatory body in Ghana. The officials of the Commission have promoted and encouraged surface mining in forest reserves, farmlands and almost everywhere in the country because, to them, gold is more important than water, cocoa, fish, economic tree species and many other resources of the environment.The advanced form of surface mining in Ghana now is called galamsey with excavators. How can the officials of the Commission allow legal and illegal small scale miners destroy farmlands and water bodies without reclamation? Greedy officials who only think of their stomachs but not the nation.
