SOURCE: CLASSFMONLINE ------ The Government of Ghana is reviewing the debts incurred by the John Mahama administration to find out whether the loans were used for the purposes of which they were contracted, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo, has revealed. After the review of the debt situation, the findings will be made public to enable the Ghanaian people realise how their moneys were spent by the previous administration, Mr Marfo added. It is recalled that during the electioneering season the then main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) accused the Mahama government of excessive borrowing but with little to show for, an assertion the then governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) rubbished because they thought they had embarked on several infrastructural projects with those loans. Mr Marfo speaking during the National Policy Summit on Tuesday May 16 said revealed that the new government is investigating all the debts left behind by Mr Mahama. “We are working on the numbers, the ministry of finance gives us the bulk numbers. But they do not all emanate from one source, we have some sitting in energy, some sitting in SSNIT and we are examining all. As a government and we are doing it gradually and slowly because we must be accurate. “We want to be sure that whatever comes out finally is accurate. The government owes it as a duty to keep the nation informed about these debts and what it was used for.”

Why did you think the Dutch, Portuguese, Germans, and British come to Africa and conquered some as their empire. They were greedy in looting Africa to take their loot from a country back to their individual country. Those commonwealth countries were all looted by the colonial and imposed their authority on those countries. This is why they built railways in India, Ghana and Ethiopia and others for the shipment because the King at that time advised that to loot countries but not to hurt the inhabitants. If Africa was poor these foreign would not have come to loot and rather imposed so called Christianity on missionary. African were so gullible this in my opinion made Africa to be looked down on as a poor continent to be exploited and used.

But our psychological posture is extremely poor. Think of it. All the stories we keep hearing from every part of Africa, including our own country of Ghana. The Presidents of each country steal the resources of their countries. No exception. Their Ministers of States of the same thing. Their Deputy Ministers do the same thing. Senior and Junior civil servants do the same thing. Because the leadership of these countries think nothing of dissipating the resources of their various countries, ordinary citizens follow suit. Antisocial behavior has become the norm. Lawyers and Bankers steal from their clients and customers. University Professors and teachers give grades to their students based on bribes received - sometimes including sex with female students. If you are sick and on admission at a government hospital, the care you receive may very well depend on whether your relatives have bribed the nurses, or orderlies in the hospital. Being "poor", includes not only the physical condition of not having money in your pocket, but also the psychological condition of being antisocial, and in Africa we have both conditions in excess. In Ghana, the practise of throwing satchel water and rubbish on the streets and gutters may be due to illiteracy and ignorant but also arises from that psychological attitude of not giving a damm for the general welfare. When a public official steals millions - even billions of money, so that he becomes the "big man", that public official does a lot of damage to their country. 60 years after independence in the Republic of Ghana for instance, we are more dependent than ever. We have extremely poor attitudes.
