The other alternative is for the community to distance itself from the crime, not by words, but by pointing out the perpetrators to the authorities. They have this information. As long as they are not prepared to identify the culprits, they will all be considered collectively as culprits. If the soldier was the one who shot and killed an innocent person in the community, the whole community will demand justice. It is the other way round, we are demanding justice from the Community. So far, the stance of the community indicates they are with the perpetrators. Therefore, none of them is innocent. They must be responsible for their actions and nothing else. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. The community's hands are not clean, and therefore cannot rely on what is just.

Se ake duagba which means "the law has broken and the destruction of the community is inevitable". It describes a state of communal free for all (lawlessness) which can only lead to the chaos, anarchy, and total destruction of the community.
This is what Prez Rawlings rightly describes here. We need laws; we need them working, and we need to abhor injustice. Otherwise our destruction as Ghana is inevitable. God hates injustice too

I cannot empathize enough with the family of the young innocent Soldier so brutally murdered by the ignorant, desperate mob.

I have 2 sons about is age who are in the Military System abroad. The elder one just resigned from the US Marines, and the younger one who is in the US Army just returned from tour of duty in the Mideast. I could see them being in a similar situation, and my heart drops just thinking how either of them could be as gruesomely killed like Captain Mahama was.

The hardest thing to absorb is the fact that Capt. Mahama did not die in a War but in a Peace-time exercise, among his own country folks who have not been at War with any party. Many of us may not like to hear it, but I cannot suppress my suspicion that such act of murderous lawlessness might have been influenced, somehow, by the recent spate of hooliganism that never got punished.

We are all humans first, and everything else subsequent. So, even if one happens to be a soldier he or she carries the same burden of fear and response to pain when afflicted by violence like the rest of us. It is only that Soldiers pledge to bear the burden a little further to ensure the security of the rest of us.

Soldiers are just as human as any of those folks who kept slamming the young man's head with rocks, or those who set him on fire. Therefore, let's ask why those perpetrators could not have a jolt of empathy to hold back for a moment and stop that senseless brutality.

Has our society regressed into primitivity where humans would hardly tap into their common feelings to show sympathy, empathy and caring for others? Or, it is some recent angst against everything establishment that is blazing higher and higher to consume us all our sensibilities? Whatever it is, our Government must hit the ground running to help restore our values for human lives, as would be expected of any modern Nation.

Taking the law into one,s own hands are just the evidence that the country law enforcement are in danger. So much need to be done to educate people in the rural areas about the consequence of taking the law into one,s own hand. The message should be made clear that communities or the so called vigilante groups should first contact the police or the local chief of any suspicious individual or group of individuals wandering with the purpose of causing harm or robbery before they mount any attack on that individual to avoid a catastrophe of killing innocent person,s. I am very angry about the incident watched on camera of how this man was stoned several times on the head with some hitting the head repeatedly with a heavy object. A far cry from the days when Ghana was a country where common sense prevails day in and day out, what,s gone wrong with the country Ghana. Why should we turn our back on reasoning and replacing it with evil. It needs to stop and stop forever.

To uphold national security, Nana Akufo Addo and NPP must face retributive justice by the military. National security is a measurable state of the capability of a nation to overcome the multi-dimensional threats to the apparent well-being of its people and its survival as a nation-state at any given time, by balancing all instruments of state policy through governance. As Ghanaians have decided to take a common direction to promote national development others thugs collectively known as NPP sympathizers with savage mentality strategized to create post electoral chaos since the election, attacking citizens who do not share their views, either robbing them of their properties, and cruelly lynching and slaughtering law enforcing personnels like Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama; just because they grabbed power through the lies of Nana Akufo Addo and his “all die be die” strategy and 419 schemes.

Following the official declaration of the last presidential electoral results, Nana Akufo Addo through his NPP thugs has been engaged in acts of terrorism and sabotage of the State and undermining personal security the citizens of Ghana. Security threats involve not only conventional foes such as other nation-states but also violent non-state actors; and it is sad to state here that in the case of Ghana, NPP can be categorized as non-state violent political group. National security is best described as a capacity to control those domestic and foreign conditions that the public opinion of a given community believes necessary to enjoy its own self-determination, prosperity and wellbeing.

It is time that Nana becomes aware that national security is the protection of citizens and territory from physical attacks which are considered as essential to the fundamental values and the vitality of the State. In other words, national security is the ability of Government to preserve the nation's physical integrity and territory, to maintain the survival of the State through the use of appropriate legal power to contain threats by using counterintelligence services to protect the nation from internal threats from NPP. Nana must also be aware that political security is about the stability of the social order. National security is also a blend of political resilience and maturity; and in this post-election era in Ghana, upon all the provocations from the main losing party NPP, Ghanaians from different political walks appear to uphold resilience, maturity and political security by not reacting to the provocation. The comportment of Akufo Addo and that of his thugs is a threat to national security, thus retributive justice must be applied by the military in order to send a message to Nana that they should not repeat those violent behaviors again. When a chronic offender like Nana Akufo Addo breaks the law, he thereby forfeits his right to play key role in Ghana politics, and justice requires that he is arrested by the military and punished accordingly and that his NPP party must be classified as a non-state actor that undermines national security, so it must be banned definitely from Ghana politics or at least be classified as such. The classical definition of retributive justice embraces the idea that the amount of punishment must be proportionate to the amount of harm caused by the offence. An alternative to retributive justice consists of declaring the transgressor NPP and Akufo Addo as an outlawed gang which we can no more tolerate in Ghana.
