What is the function of a stick when a dog advances on me with intent? Was the weapon snatched from him? If yes, then the mob would have discharged the weapon finishing the Captain instantly. It also suggests the weapon might have been without rounds therefore only used as a decoy for deterrent. I would have gone down with some of them emptying my magazine. Rest in Peace young Captain Mahama.

I am seething with extreme anger and inconsolence for a young brilliant soldier to be killed in such brutish, heartless and callous manner by these primitive barbarians. The cardinal question jingling and lingering in my mind as to why an armed robber will openly be jogging with a pistol? Why will these uncouth barbarians with primitive primate instincts assume the pistol was not loaded only to lunch an unprovoked, deadly attack on him? I am amazed by the fact that a very stupid and insensitive so-called DCE will try to justify and defend this gruesome, shameless, murderous act by these primitive barbarians.Mr.Bobande,the peace expert touched on hatred among Ghanaians but have been very hypocritical and economical with the truth by not hitting the nail right on the head that we have deep-seated ethnic prejudice and hate in this Country and more often than not even our politics is bedeviled with politico-tribal sentiments. For very strange reasons indegines along the coastal belt of central and western region have extreme tribal prejudice and hatred for northerners. They despise, abuse, maltreat and attack northerners who find themselves working over there. They mass up,hatch conspiracy and will engage in all manner of diabolic and malicious acts including exterminating you simply because of perception and hatred informed by myopic tribal sentiments. It has happened to health workers, educationists, administrators and security persons of northern extract posted to work over there.A brother of ours who worked at effia nkwanta regional hospital as a doctor had his live attempted on two occasions simply because natives who were head of the regional health directorate wanted him out of the region.Eventually he was falsely implicated with a mental illness by the hierarchy of the Ghana Health Service and dismissed on the basis of same purely as a victim of blackmail just because he was a northerner unfit to work in the western region in the myopic, infantile, colonial, mentality of his superiors. We have gotten to a stage where the name, looks and speech of one can make him or her an instant victim of tribal hatred by perverts. It is a very big problem we are scared to speak against and obviously playing the ostrich with.I agree that reckless mob action and mistaken identity is possible but not in this instance where the story doesn't add up with all permutations and possibilities.I can smell a rat in the midst of a foul play and will not be surprise even if some of his own colleagues from the GAF are involved. One of his colleagues admitted the lynching was planned and that requires a thorough, meticulous investigations into this gruesome act of murder right from community into place of work.If this had happen in the north you will find all manner of unpalatable words depicting northerners as violent and primitive. This case has proven that violent, inhuman, atrocious and barbaric acts of this sort is not the sole reserve of a particular tribe or ethnicity, the very weapon some tribal perverts with deep seated unreasonable, baseless, ethnic prejudice use against us.

Masa Kwesi Pratt, much as I agree with you, there is no social justice and equity so people tend to take the law into their own hands at the slightest opportunity. Until we restore confidence in our security services, backed by a solid social justice and equity forget it, the masses will always take the laws into their own hands.

The anarchy in Ghana ought to be blamed by Rawlings and the Kufour Regime. It all started when Rawlings sent vessels to Liberia to help the Refugees from Liberia during the war to come to Ghana without vetting them, they came with criminals with guns, the guns were scattered throughout their streets, Rawlings back then realized the mistakes he has made and started to stabilize them, but it was too late.
Kufour did nothing, and the Nigerians also joined in, and it became worse, so our local citizens has top it off, even some members of the Law Enforcement has also joined in, because no one else is keeping an eye on the situation, everyone does their own altruistic ways, how can a Country progress without justice? A piecefull Country like Ghana has become a land of Mayhem.

My condolence to all loved ones. Mr Pratt you are right, mob action whether by civilians or military is not right. This unlawful acts by the civilians and military had gone on for far too long, enough is enough. Nevertheless more revelations have come out:
Are Soldiers still manning galamsay site? Is the Minister and Soldiers flouting the President orders? How long have these Soldiers been there? Who is favouring who and who in having interest in what? Can galamsey be eliminated with this attitude?
The residents took mob action and the military responded with mob action the advice must go to all.
