NDC HAS MILKED GHANA DRY: NDC guys are crooks. The other time Dr Apaak, a presidential staffer under Mahama, came out to claim that an amount of $5.9M was rather the cost of the new Veep Mansion. Then NDC Deputy Minority leader, James Klutse Avedzi, also said the amount is $5.0M. Now the NDC General Secretary is saying the amount is $3.5M. It is only the NPP that has remained consistent with $13.9 so far. It appears the NDC is not saying the truth. They are doing this to defend Thief Mahama at all cost. However, pressure mounted on the NDC has forced Allotey Jacobs, the NDC chairman for Central Region to admit guilt. He stated on Peace Fm that the fresh document from Consar on the cost of the project brings finality to the controversy surrounding the cost, adding that contesting the cost is impossible.“With what has come from Consar Limited, it is difficult to defend this issue. They are on the job and what they have put out settles the controversy surrounding the cost of the project. If Consar themselves have put out this information, then what do I have to say…nothing.” IT IS ONLY THIEVES WHO WILL ALWAYS DEFEND THEIR FELLOW THIEF AT THE PERIL OF THEIR LIVES.

John, Lawyer Sosu cannot come out publicly with his side of the story since he is appealing against his conviction and sentence at the Appeal Court.

When I first read this story, I thought something was fishy. First, it was alleged that he had swindled his client, then it came out that he had overcharged a client and advertised on social media.

A number of questions came into my mind. Was the fee agreed in advance, has the Ghana Bar Association or Legal Council provided fee guidelines for which Sosu had breached? In a free market economy, is not supply and demand, is marketing or advertising not guaranteed under the Ghanaian Constitution (free speech/freedom of expression/free media)?

Now having read the facts from Manasseh, it is clear that, Sosu coming from an ordinary background to be a successful human rights attorney challenging the establishment, he has stepped on some toes so he should be brought down by the powers that be.

Second, this appear to be ideological. The legal fraternity in Ghana will never forgive those who are associates of P/NDC for the cruel murder of the judges. Lawyer Sosu contested the Adenta NDC parliamentary primary in 2016, so it appears he is being punished for his political affiliation with NDC.

Regarding the fee, my only concern was the extra 10% fee for the Ghc150 per month paid to the client until the compensation was paid. That should have been treated as a loan with interest and not a blanket 10% fee amounting to Ghc20,000. That was excessive and unjustified even if the client agreed to it.

I believe the regulation on advertisement was in force before the advent of the internet and social media. This regulation has outlived its usefulness and should be removed or amended to bring it in line with current development. It is also breaches the Ghanaian Constitution and therefore null and void.

Lawyer Sosu is doing the right thing by going to the Appeal Court. Let's wait and see what happens but his conviction and sentence is not only excessive but also vindictive. Those who sat on the case should be ashamed of themselves. The Ghanaian judiciary must take politics out of the administration of justice.

This is not to deny the fact that Ghanaian lawyers are very corrupt and simply collect money from clients without recourse to the quality of services they offer and this happens in other parts of the world also. Lawyers generally are a law onto themselves in several instances and as advocates this is very unfortunate.
