Personally, I think the Minister is correct to insist on evacuating the
residents because of on-going danger to life. However, he should have publicly made a commitment to funding emergency resources to assist the flood victims. Particularly, with regards to accommodation which will be an ongoing problem now that homes have been destroyed. The Minister, is wrong to assume that all of the flood victims can rely on support from their extended families.
The public comments made by the Minister, are not acceptable without
financial resources being made available to assist the flood victims.
