This headline caught my eye quite recently and has brought on a lot of mixed reaction from my fellow country men and women most of who think it is bad press, which isn't surprising since most of my fellow citizens never look past what ever preconditioning society sets them up with and more often than not fail to do due diligence by way of researching a subject before having any inclinations what so ever towards a subject matter.

Now my personal opinion as an individual and a brand strategist is simply that the is no such thing as bad press and here is what I mean by that.
Aside from the many research that has been conducted on the medicinal and therapeutic values of the drug which has led to it's continual legalization in most parts of the world, the is also the positives which surprisingly most people don't consider which is the alternate use of hemp for making plastic, paper, furniture, clothing, bio diesel, fire retardent products and even bricks for building and construction amongst many other uses.

These are some of the good uses of hemp aside from it's illicit use for which we are now being tagged with, the positives is that as a country we can turn this supposed bad press around into something positive if we are to look at the bright side of the story which can likely create opportunities major economic gains for the nation should we choose to exploit it.

The manufacturing of hemp based products could become an economic asset just as cocoa is for Ghana, not as an export in its raw state but as manufactured products which creates employment, it's fast growth, pest resistance, and environmentally friendliness which in the case of hemp plastic products that are biodegradable can help solve our current environmental problems concerning conventional plastics waste disposal because it has been proven that plastic products such as bottles made of hemp decomposes ninety days after it has been discarded off.

Every dark cloud has it's silver lining and it is up to us to look for that silver lining, I know by openly expressing my views on this I am predisposing myself to harsh criticism from maybe well meaning but insular minded people who may be in the majority at the moment but before you cast the first stone do some research on what I am proposing and then we can have an objective and educated discourse on the best way forward without biase or prejudice.

The current approach to curtailing the issue is doing more harm than good.
We have been jailing a lot of victims in the name of curtailing drug use but have failed because the prevailing system doesn’t work addicts who need rehab and medical attention have been imprisoned instead of being help and other wise good students have had their futures ruined for having very little ounces of drug on them. The war on drugs has failed because it is doing more harm than good.
What if former users like Obama were caught and imprisoned what would have become of him them, incarceration doesn’t resolve the issue it worsens it let's use education and rehab instead.
It could be your son or daughter, nieces or nephews who may be caught next time while experimenting with drugs while in school, the question is should their lives be ruined by incarceration because they are the victims because of the current miopic stance of the law?
