The Chief Justice of Ghana is very unpatriotic for blocking the decentralization of Legal Education. Her stubborn stance has led to many Ghanaians not knowing their rights as enshrined in our law books and, for that reason, a lot of foreign entities have fleeced Ghanaians and many of our compatriots are unaware of it.
I am one person who, through my single efforts, has been able to protect many Ghanaians from being cheated by the Telcos through short codes 1733 and 1303. Any Ghanaian who receives messages from these short codes has automatically been short-changed. It happened to me on some few occasions and when I protested and asked for a refund, I was able to get GHC7.55 back - to my surprise. Imagine some 5million subscribers of that telco being deducted this amount monthly. You can now see how the Telcos are making cheap money and repatriating it back to their countries all because majority of Ghanaians don't know law. Later when I checked those behind this dubious deal I was told the company's name is MTech and almost all the directors are from Eastern Nigeria. Initially when I started the fight, NCA personnel did everything to frustrate me but because I had sound knowledge in Global Corporate and Business Law, I was able to trap them after which they had no option than to divulge sensitive information to me. How was I able to acquire the knowledge to salvage Ghanaians? It is because I got the chance to subscribe to a programme by distance learning, at the comfort of my home, even though I had to part ways with some few British Pounds. You see, if the British have made it possible for me to acquire such a wonderful legal knowledge, what prevents our Legal Council from putting measures in place to decentralize Legal Training? My people, I am currently battling a foreign bank in Ghana which is also fleecing their unsuspecting clienteles. I know I am going to win without a lawyer because I have a superior legal knowledge - thanks to the Queen of England who has made this possible.
Well, critics of the decentralized system have argued in favour of quality and my question is; after practicing the current centralized system for decades what have we achieved apart from high court judges taking bribes.

All around the world, we have legal education Ghanaians like to site as gold standard; Harvard, oxford etc. These institutions have no requirement for attending a law school after a law degree. What practical law is the law school teaching that the universities cannot offer? Are the law lecturers in our universities not law practitioners too? Lame excuse!
Lawyer Akufo belongs to 19th century law and her position on legal training in Ghana represents the view of the end of the road. For forward looking reforms, we need those who have been exposed to contemporary law training to lead this crusade of reforms. Dr Raymond Atubigah perhaps. Chief Justice Akufo's ideology regarding law belongs to yesterday. We can't but be progressive. So for now we are stuck with Ghana law, an irrelevance, until the current crop of lawyers trained under the current system die out.

When we were 5 million people in this country, we had one law school. Now, we are 26 million and we have only one law school to train our 'I put it to you' brothers and sisters!!!. This does not make sense!! What are we waiting for Can lawyers not be trained outside Accra? There are medical schools in Kumasi and Cape Coast; why not law schools as well??
And why only one law school in Accra? Our thinking about this issue seems as archaic as the wigs our lawyers wear!!! Why not a law school in the North, another in Ashanti, and another in Cape Coast/Takoradi? Clearly, it does not make sense . The curriculum of the Ghana Law School can easily be replicated in these proposed new law schools. The training of lawyers should not be restricted to Accra alone. KNUST used to have a department of law. Why can't we upgrade this to a school of law? What are we waiting for?

Ghana needs more lawyers: in fact there should be as many lawyers in every village and city in Ghana and accessible to everyone.
One Law School is an old mentality:
Havard Law School, Yale, Oxford, etc train their lawyers in their respective departments and once they pass the exams and the board exams, they begin practice typically through a law firm or wherever they choose to. Most of the Supreme Court Judges in the US graduated (coincidentally from Ivy leagues) with academic law degrees and bar exams and took various jobs to gain experience. Our legal system is in a stone age
