Jerry John Rawlings has stated that greed among some party members led to their loss in the 2016 general elections. He claimed corruption increased to insane levels under John Mahama and accused them of departing from the values of probity and accountability which formed the basis under which the party was formed. According to him, it was mainly because of the corruption that the NDC lost power to the governing New Patriotic Party.

He chose to use his money wisely unlike those who buy show-off cars and chase girls. The jet is not luxury to him but to also help in over seeing some contract executions since he is smart. It is also a safe way of traveling considering his stature and the spate of armed robbery.
