Jerry John Rawlings has stated that greed among some party members led to their loss in the 2016 general elections. He claimed corruption increased to insane levels under John Mahama and accused them of departing from the values of probity and accountability which formed the basis under which the party was formed. According to him, it was mainly because of the corruption that the NDC lost power to the governing New Patriotic Party.

  Nana Addo, you should accept FULL RESPONSIBILITY for the various acts of lawlessness in the country. I say this in view of your actions and comments during your time in opposition, especially when you said 'THE MILITANTS ON OUR SIDE. Your refusal to ensure the punishment of those NPP Militants responsible for the flagstaff house brutalities which occured on your first day in office, your meeting with the Delta force , following their action at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and thereafter at the courts and your silence and inaction on the toll booth seizures have all culminated in emboldening your militants. YOU NEED TO RESIGN AS PRESIDENT IMMEDIATELY
