Independence is different from democracy. Ex Prez. Kuffuor was talking about Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and democracy not Dr. Nkrumah and Ghana's independence. Dr. Nkrumah succeeded in the independence project he did not start, but failed miserably in the democratic dispensation of the newly independent state of Ghana. He inspired all other African colonial states to gain independence, but also inspired them to become autocratic with dictatorship regimes. Please do not mix up independence and democracy, they are two different things. Dr. Nkrumah failed miserably in the latter, Kuffuor only spoke the truth.

The multiparty system of government is not really democratic, it fractures the country. The only luck is that they are governed by the rule of law.

My friends USA is not a democratic country, it is a republic. There is no where in their constitution where the word democracy is mentioned. The framers called democracy a mob rule.

President Kuffuor in delivering his address should have clearly defined democracy as he sees then dwell on it.

Furthermore, after the Kulungugu bombing in which the life of a head of state was endangered, he has to fight his enemies. Of course use a weapon of mass destruction in any country is a treasonable offence and perperators should be brought to justice.

In addition Ghana was a newly minted country and our destiny was being threatened. Nkrumah laid the foundation for the current Unity that we are enjoying now. He laid the groundwork for democracy to flourish. He weeded out the bad nuts who were advocating federalism.

USA started with no political party but with time parties emerged. We are a young nation and we should not be bullied into submission by our former masters. Our former masters do not want us to succeed the reason is pure and simple, their economy depended on us. Now their economy is being sustained by the Arab oil money

Resources that goes into training and arming vigilantes must be used to improve the Ghana Police Services. Nkrumah did not kill J. B. Danquah. It is only politically convenient for J. B.'s supporters to claim that. As much as his imprisonment at Nsawam was an excessive reaction to his subversive activities, he was afflicted with High Blood Pressure for which Nkrumah should have been more empathetic to keep him, in house arrest, or something even more humane. That is what killed him. Nkrumah did not order for his killing.

Meanwhile, have you ever heard or seen anywhere that J. B. Danquah ever rejected the numerous assassination attempts on Nkrumah's life by the former's UP/NLM Political Party? Nkrumah had to protect his life, too. And Danquah and his violent opposition didn't give him much chance to draw on his forgiving nature.

Vengeance is no virtue, or moral strength. So, I wish both sides could have exercised more restraint to sought out their differences in a more peaceful way. But I guess the general global political atmosphere had little room for that. The Cold War worsened the soup for all. So, if you are too young to have experienced any part of those days, first-hand, research further to learn the truth.

That need to be changed, so every State can choose their own leaders to handle their own affairs, in their Regions, not the winner of one party takes it all system.
Nkrumah stole the money that the British Empire left, and gave to Henry Djaba & Acka Blay Miesah to be deposited in their accounts so they can share later, but they kept it and gave him nothing so he died broke. Rawlings tried to retreave it and couldn't find any other way to get it, because the British were protecting them, so Corruption started with Nkrumah. When his Ministers found what Nkrumah has done with the Country's Chest, they also started stealing the new money they have come up with ( Cedis & Pesowas ). This is how the Corruption began in the Country.

Kufuor should not speak ill of the dead. Nkrumah became brutal when the opposition tried to kill him. Nkrumah did far more for Ghana and Africa than any president, including Kufuor himself. Kufuor is neo-colonialist.

You can count all the top companies in Ghana - they are for foreigners. After 40 years, youth are facing bleak future. Now, schooling doesn't make sense in Ghana anymore. I can count the number of people calling my line for loan or begging for money every day. Inequality has shot the highest level. Mr. Kuffour please let the man be. You had the opportunity to change Ghana for good. When everyone thought that Rawlings had destroyed everything in Ghana. You did your best and non one is complaining. At least, the country has never had a president who was incorruptible after Nkrumah. He never built a hut for himself while he was in power. It is true that Kwame Nkrumah was a dictator and demagogue. It is true that Kwame Nkrumah also evolved a cult of personality, which was necessary for him to straddle Ghana like a colossus. It is further true that a number of.laws were passed by the parliament which were odious and infringed on personal freedoms, but I submit that prior to Nkrumah, the various tribes had "chiefs" and "odikros" every few meters from each other. Under British indirect rule, these chiefs still wielded a good amount of power. During all that time, concepts such as "freedom of speech", "freedom of association" and "freedom of religion", was not tolerated. If the British wanted to impose a "head tax", or "land poll", they simply imposed it. To this day, in mid 2017, the culture of Ghana, is highly intolerant of divergent opinion. There is something in our social makeup that grates against listening to the ideas of others. Kwame Nkrumah surrounded himself with people like Krobo Adusei, Kojo Botsio, Ako Adjei, Kobla Gbedemah, Nkumsah, Abavana - - all of whom had that same impulse to be authoritarian. One needs not go into the political power structure to see that impulse to authoritarianism. One can see it on every street in Ghana!

What the former president is saying is over 100 percent correct. Every school kid is a young Pioneer and just imagine my mom was speaking about president Nkrumah and I said am going to report her to the police, for over a month, my mom wouldn't eat the food she had prepared for us, until an uncle came to advice me that, they will put her in detention without trial for the rest of her life, I wouldn't see her again.

My Dad was in Nkrumah's Government but I was not a member of the Pioneer and didn't like wearing their Scarf around my neck at a School where the Students were compelled to wear it.

My Dad was in Nkrumah's Government but I was not a member of the Pioneer and didn't like wearing their Scarf around my neck at a School where the Students were compelled to wear it.

Before the Pioneers the Boys and Girls Scouts had already taken root in Ghana. But the Pioneers had a flashy, glitzy appearance for uniforms that seemed more attractive to children, and some kids left the Scouts to join them.

The Young Pioneers were much criticized for its Socialist or Communist attachments that scared many Parents who thought their kids were being indoctrinated with Communist ideology at the expense of their families' control over the children's lives. That was the scariest part of the Pioneer program. In Israel, however, the Pioneers were guided to hold Zionism close to their hearts for the survival and growth and expansion of the Zionist State.

Well, the Scouts have outlived the Pioneers in global expansion and acceptability. But recent revelations indicate a massive invasion of the Scout Movement,too, with indecent sexual activities with the kids by some of their older leaders. Homosexual impositions and assaults have been found to be common among the Scouts, especially, in the USA.

We all must be careful what societies we let our Children be part of, and we should always resist any attempt by a Government to force the kids to be part of any such Movement.

Your point bout Young Pioneers vs Boys and Girls Scouts are well documented. Students in the US swear allegiance to the flag of the country everyday. If NK had done that, people like you would have thrown fits and hands, ready to fight. Glad you redeemed yourself with reference to what the Israelis did.

Now, lets suppose the late great President Kwame Nkrumah, universally voted Africa's Leader of the 20th century, had loads of money from the British.
At the time of independence, Ghana had one university college under a UK university. If you're well educated, you'll understand the hurdles you have to go through to train Ghana's students in tertiary institutions.

Knowing this, KN upgraded Gold Coast University College to a full blown University of Ghana with top professors across the world. On top of that, he built University of Science and Technology, Cape Coast University, started Winneba University, built a slew of teacher training colleges, polytechnics, secondary schools, etc.

Knowing that our people were generally poor, he made schools free from primary through university.

He built the top notch Ambassador Hotel for foreign visitors to stay.
He built hospitals, Tema Harbour, Kwabenya Nuclear Institute, Tema Motorway, Akosombo HEP, Ghana Standards Board, State Transport Corporation, GIHOC, Ghana Airways, Black Star Line, factories, etc., etc.

Whatever money people dreamt the British left, it is obvious that by completing the above development projects, there wouldn't be much left.

The problem that Ex-President Kufuor omits but should have considered was the numerous attempts on KN's life.
Everything considered, would you stand idly by when others try to kill you? KN was really kind to build Nsawam Prison to house people behind the bombs.

How could Ex-President JAK justify that the late great President Kwame Nkrumah "plunged Ghana into chaos?"

If kwame Nkrumah didn't do anything for ghana, at least he built the motorway,akosombo dam which is still in use today. J kuffour need to just shut his stinking mouth and leave mother ghana alone.
