You want to build a career in the civil service and you collude and connive with corrupt criminal politicians to steal the national purse into oblivion, and somehow some way, your brilliant idea or solution is, the President's hands should be tied in screamingly firing such officials, and that fixes the problem?

  You can make a career out of the civil service when you are aligned perfectly with the vision of Ghana, to become a developed nation in the intelligent and incorruptible use of the resources of the state to achieve that goal. The framers of the Constitution were not stupid in granting those powers to the President. It has become politicised because criminal corrupt politicians have made it so, to prosecute their depraved agenda of thievery. Ask Martin Amidu he has a lot to speak about the looter-lootee phenomenon John Dramani Mahama visited on the national,purse of this country.

  An arm chair political science professor like this should not be taken serious.
  During the last Npp primaries he made a prediction that Alan Kyeremateng will win but he ended up getting only less than 4%.
  He's done several analyses in radio sometimes a go and he was only speaking the Ghanaian academic big English. Since then I stopped listening to this unenviable academic entity hiding his incompetence for titles.

  The Prof is right. The amount of power given our President by the constitution is just too much. Really such amount of power in the hands of a good, selfless and unselfish leader who knows what he is about can bring about rapid development and fast change in the fortunes of citizens for the better. However, the evidence of the past 24 years of rule through the 4th republican constitution clearly shows that the high amount of power in the hands of our Presidents have not been beneficial enough to Ghanaians. It is the Head of the Civil Service and Head of the Local Government's duty to appoint Chief Directors and other Directors to positions in the 2 services but de facto the Executive has largely usurped this power and thus politicised the top echelons of the services to the detriment of Ghana. We should note that politicians in themselves will not bring us the development and comfort we crave; it is the systems we set up and jealously protect that will. In fact leaders of the free world like US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, can only dream of the level of power our President has, even though they are far more powerful; their constitutions and systems will not allow it.
