I am astonished Ghanaians are surprised that Nigerians can acquire Ghanaian passports! Yes, that is what you are hearing and seeing. Anyone can BUY a Ghanaian passport with ease just as buying a lottery ticket - if only you can PAY heavily. Nigerians with Ghanaian passports living in Europe and America is not a new phenomena; its common. This started way back in the early 1990s or even before when travelling on a Nigerian passport to Europe and America became extremely difficult and bothersome due to the increase in the detection of criminal behavior and actions of some, and I repeat SOME Nigerian miscreants who gave the country a bad name and reputation. At the time and even currently, with a Nigerian passport, one was subjected to extensive scrutiny and interrogation which sometimes resulted in refusal of entry at European and American borders. Not surprising, Ghana was identified as the weakest link in West Africa to BUY a passport! Sadly enough, that is how low Ghanaian officials at our passport office have stooped. Selling NATIONALITY is an unforgiveable and unpardonable act. Come on, guys, lets wake up as a nation! It is soo soo wrong!!!

While I agree with you but also Ghanaians like my father used Nigerian passport to travel to US in the 80s. I actually still have the Nigerian passport with me. He told me of so many Ghanaians that did the same because Nigerians were highly regarded that time and Ghanaians had to get visa to US. Let's be honest and rationale and fair in our thinking. I'm so sure that there are so many Ghanaians that used Nigerian passport too to travel . Diligence check must be done when people applied for passport but you can't just say that you will not give passport to foreigners that deserved it under law of Ghana. Every country in the world issues passport to foreigners and Ghana will not be an exception . Regards

Ghanaians, even in diaspora, have tough times getting a passport. Let us just say that the millionaire walks in with bagful of money.....he can easily get a birth certificate and a passport Nobody should tell me the passport and birth/death registry are not culprits.
