Also directors of boards should desist from micro managing the institutions. They should hire competent CEO to run the day to day affairs.
Boards should not be meeting weekly just because they draw sitting allowances. Bad!!

The Republic of Ghana, has hundreds (perhaps thousands), of state owned enterprises, in addition to constitutional offices such as Chief Justice, which must be filled. In all countries around the world, the Chief Justice is appointed by the Head of State. So far, in that respect, the appointment of a Chief Justice by the President of Ghana, is consistent with international norms. What is bewildering is the vast numbers of CEOs and Board Chairmen that he also appoints. You can blame that on our socialist or neo socialist governmental structure. For "socialist" reasons, we embrace a "one factory, one didtrict" policy even though such business decisions are best left to the private sector. Provide the roads, the stable electricity supply, stable water supply, stable telephone systems and a sensible business entrepreneur will make the decision on where best to situate a factory. To be sure, all these elements of development comes step by step. Rome, as they say, was not built in a day. Since the days of Kwame Nkrumah, most of the managing directors and CEOs of the various state owned enterprises, have been incompetent and not suited to their roles. Mind you, just because somebody has a university degree in a field does not.mean that person will be a good manager. Indeed a university degree prepares a person to be a good line office, not necessarily a good "general" officer. We are in a bind. As long as Ghana subscribes to the idea of state owned enterprises, the business of appointing the managers and boards will fall on the President.
