Nkkrumah was a dictator and had dictatorial tendencies right from the onset. It wasn't a coincidence that he admired the communist dictatorships of the Soviet Union and China and tried to align Ghana with them.

Kwame Nkrumah circle was all bushes, no schools, no hospitals, no roads, there was virtually nothing except ignorance and lack of education for the masses.
The UP party had "action troopers", they committed so many atrocities in Ghana, many people lost their lives, many were beaten and tortured etc.
All I can tell U is that Nkrumah had very good intentions to transform Ghana into an industrialized country and he had the knowledge and intelligent people, not only from Ghana but Black American professors and all blacks in the world wanted Ghana to succeed, but the forces that worked against Nkrumah was too much including enemies from home.
"Action and reaction are opposite and equal" Nkrumah responded by putting them into prison, he did not kill them, Fedel Castro, Quadaffi and others killed those who attempted to kill them.

Nobody fought to return Nkrumah' to Ghana. He started his African liberation activism abroad. He's was happy to go home to help the independence movement, and the leaders so the potential in him. The were lackadaisical and so he overtook them. They then became jealous and did not even want independence anymore. Then independence happened inspite of their opposition. So, they continued to thwart his efforts and effect Ghana's efforts. Those UP people are traitors who eventually led Ghana into the mess we are in today. Ghana would have been a great country.

Of course Dr. Nkrumah is an African icon, nevertheless he was a dictator and missed his own vision as years went by during his presidency. His vision was clear, but his judgments were bad. Intolerance does not work in democracy, and he was guilty of that.

However Nkrumah fortunately would be remembered for many many years, because of the total failure of subsequent African leaders in efforts of building the continent up and out from poverty, disease, hunger, humiliation, corruption and violence. Otherwise his failures would have been trumpeted and his name would have been a curse.

However Nkrumah fortunately would be remembered for many many years, because of the total failure of subsequent African leaders in efforts of building the continent up and out from poverty, disease, hunger, humiliation, corruption and violence. Otherwise his failures would have been trumpeted and his name would have been a curse.

The people were happier.

All through their lives, they have been at nothing but the incitement of chaos, mayhem and anarchy. These are the people who introduced suicide bombings into Ghana way back in the late 1950s and the early 1960s, when even the Talibans had not yet started that wicked practice. Nkrumah's foresight, intelligence and overwhelming popularity has always dazed these criminal posse of nation wreckers. These UP/NPP vampires were the people who didn't care about the means through which political power got to them, hence they would not even blink an eye putting bombs (yes, bombs), into flower bouquets for young, pretty and innocent girls to carry to the Osagyefo just so he could get assassinated through this ploy. That was nothing but the highest height of depravity and cruelty. And all these were done just to gain political power. So they did all these many times over without success, and were expecting the Real Osagyefo to fold his arms and clap for them? Definitely no...!!! If he gets you, he'll simply have to squeeze your balls, and this he did. But the more silly, hypocritical and annoying thing about these rats making all these noises is that, they introduced exactly ALL the things they were accusing Nkrumah of doing from the very day they stupidly overthrew him. And truth be told, they never ever would have been able to subdue THE MAN if they had not gotten that massive financial and logistical support from that demon-ridden country called America. This was an undeniable fact because these UP people were simply nothing but blind, weak and stupid cowards. Nkrumah easily held and controlled them in his palm just like a ludo dice. They couldn't cough nor do any foko. They eventually had to adopt those heartless guerrilla tactics that they callously adopted on women and young children when they engaged in their bomb-throwing escapades. When you add up the achievements of all these bandits and thieves that they've produced as leaders, the total aggregate for ALL of them never even comes to a quarter of what the SON OF AFRICA achieved. So my dear people, just ignore the attempts of these hoodlums and mobsters to discredit our one and ONLY Osagyefo. His fame, awe, prestige and unmatchable legend are recorded and well-documented in famed and prestigious archives and libraries around the world. Can you admit your Daddy's governance behaviors fit this definition? Granted he was constantly provoked by his political opponents to enforce the laws in a draconian ways to assure stability? On the other had , comparative to Jerry Rawlings AFRC and PNDC governance behaviors which was similar to that of Roman Emperor Nero's reign, your Daddy's form of dictatorship was lame. Thus , we can grudgingly allow your emotional blindness of saying your Daddy was not a dictator? That is your opinion and we can grant you that, but we cannot allow you your own facts to conclude your Dad was not a Dictator? Per the above definition and the facts during the period 1960 to 1966, you Dad was no Saint.! He was a Dictator. This conclusion does not obviate the fact tha he did a lot of Good for the people of Ghana. A lot of the current elite from very poor families achieved their potentials due to his egalitarian and transformational policies. For that Ghanaians must be forever be indebted including presidents Kuffour, Mills, Mahama and Nana Addo whose current policies is a variant of Nkrumah policies.

We went along and made that choice. After 60 years the danger is still around and are willing to live in a blissful servitude.We admire and pursue the lifestyle of our former masters ( the West) and later day masters ( Asia) and to steal our nation's assets to splurged in new hedonist sites( Dubai). We are still commodity merchants and consumers of other people's value added productions.
Sadly the political divide that happened with the split of the UGCC in the late 40s continue to tie a lead block on our leg , making it difficult for us to progress faster ? We must shed our curse of the constant debates of our former leaders democratic behaviors. The last time I looked, the progress we so admired about our new found friends: China, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea were not achieved in an environment of waring factions. On the contrary their progress happened under dictatorships. And in the West most progressive periods of economic and social transformation has come under bi- partisan political environments which seem to elude us ? Our economic and social transformation if achieved under our current political system will be unique on earth. Our political factions and actors must find a model that can reduce the political polemics and tensions that divide us to assure faster progress irrespective of which group runs our affairs. Finally , we must understand that political leaders can't be Angels. We should only pray when we give them power to run our affairs that their good deeds will outweigh their bad deeds. And should change them when they do not meet our expectations.

Although he studied in the U.S. and the U.K. he abandoned his democratic beliefs and embraced communist ideals, when he became a staunch disciple of W.E.B Dubious, a Pan-American scholar, with great links with Stalin's Communism. By attempting to propagate Communism in America, he had troubles with authorities of his homeland. He couldn't return to his country when his application for his Passport renewal was declined by the U.S. gov't. He died in Ghana. He influenced Nkrumah unto paths of communism that led Ghana turn to a one party state. Nkrumah and his gangs polluted the minds of gullible Ghanaians into believing that the new system was good for the country. Hence the establishment of state enterprises eg Black Star Line, GNTC, GIHOC, State Hotels etc. He didn't believe in private enterprises, although it was a private businessman, Alfred Grant aka Paa Grant, a financier of the UP party who footed the bill for Nkrumah's passage from England, to become the secretary of the party. Nkrumah had financial support and strategic advice or plan to win election; he won when in prison. No sooner had won the election than he started jailing his political opponents. Great scholars were thrown in jail, while some of them died there eg. J.B. Danquah. To sum it all up, Nkrumah was a dictator; a tyrant extraordinaire!

It looks like when Kwame Nkrumah suggested to Kofi Busia to name the fragmented parties that came together under the latter United Party he did so by pointing a gun at the head of Busia.

Due to his intolerance, he did away with a multi-party system form of democracy (killed democracy) and instituted a one party state.
Due to his high level of intolerance, Kwame Nkrumah instituted the PREVENTIVE DETENTION ACT whereby any Ghanaian who dared to challenge his policy was detained without trial and "murdered" especially at the Nsawan Prison condemned Cells. This clearly proved his extreme level of intolerance and total DISDAIN for the RULE OF LAW.
His level of intolerance was such that he set families against each other (I experienced this in my family) and turned young and innocent children into SPIES under the guise of the Young Pioneer MOvement.
Of course, it is true that he supposedly did a lot for Ghana but all that he did was literally satisfy his ego of wanting to be a "tin god" and also to be the President of the whole of Africa.
The TRUTH must be told and not hidden and or swept under the carpet.

The fight was not to replace the colonialist with African elites and bourgeoisie whose aim was to hijack power for their own selfish ends. The UP,which grew out of the UGCC, NEVER FORGAVE NKRUMAH for breaking away from them to form the CPP. Bent os singing their colonial masters voice, the UP members colluded with the CIA and MI6 as early as 1958 to overthrow the Nkrumah government. If they were democrats as they claimed, why did they not let Parliament work but sought through RR Amponsah and Major AHWAITEY, AS EARLY AS 1958, to assassinate NKRUMAH. Kuffour after having worked with military dictatorships like the NLC and AFRC, would have us believe that he is a DEMOCRAT - such blatant hypocrisy. Busia and Danquah were on the payroll of the CIA and MI6. It is such a miracle that within 6 years of the first republic, Nkrumah notwithstanding 8 serious attempts on his life was able to implement so many development projects in health, education, roads, harbors, power, housing, industries, .
