We should do more of these deals quickly to lift us out of poverty, whilst the assets still have some value.
The bauxite, iron ore, and some of the other minerals we have underground will in the near future have NO VALUE.
No nobody would want to exchange them for money. Advance Technological development is chipping away the usefulness for some of the minerals we have.

Now what Dr Bawumia did not tell us is whether it is the 5% ore or not.
Ghana has no reliable power supply and was the reason why Valco-Kaiser shut down.
The most dangerous thing is Bauxite at what international commodity prices?
If China is going to determine the prices, they will insist on the minimum like all other government deals so in the end 5% will cost Ghana some 50% or more. So Ghana in reality will be worst off.

Ghana has untapped 460 millions ton of bauxite. Aluminum price as of 3-7-2017 was $1917 per ton. 460,000,000 ton x $1917= $881,820,000,000 or $881 billon. Any smart country has to process Aluminum instead of exporting raw bauxite. 20 billion translates to 0.023%. You can easily leverage this potential to develop this resource. I am glad Vice President is thinking like this. You cannot beg your way to develop, but instead, your can leverage your resources to process your natural resources to obtain highest price at the world market, Kudos to Vice President

i think it should have been prudent to contract a minimum loan to set up the refinery by ourself, got the raw materials , process them for export ,use the 2yrs proceeds to clear off the loan and the rest belongs to Ghana.
