You'll have to know the road like your pocket to be able to drive from Accra to Kumasi without any incident.

Where are the morals of Ghanaians, today? This incident and that of the Murder of Major Mahama by a Mob summarize for us how much we have gone off the cliff in maintaining decent moral principles as a Nation.

It used to be that People would almost always associate our much urbanized areas, large Towns and Cities, with most heinous crimes. Families would always warn children going to the cities, for example, to be more careful because crime used to be more common and intense there.

Now, we are seeing our rural areas depicting worse crimes than we would ever associate the Cities with. What went wrong?

I may be wrong. It could well be that the crimes of the cities just migrated or spread out into the hinterland, and we are shocked to see that manifestation.

Whatever it is, folks, we must, now, acknowledge that no one is safe anymore anywhere in Ghana. We don't have the luxury to claim that we live in a safe and quiet countryside anymore.

Our long-distance-running passenger vehicles, especially, buses, are being stopped on the Highways in the most unsuspected areas in the rural areas, in between cities, to be robbed by armed robbers. Many of our normally well-behaved, rural folks with greater fear of the spirit world, psychic effects, and closer adherence to religious principles, now, seem to have morphed into insensitive godless non-believers with little caring for human lives or values.

Thinking of reversal of values between the rural and the urban dwellers, doesn't the massive increase in Church presence in the urban areas versus the opposite in the rural areas, at least, relative speaking, have any bearing on the shocking intensity of crimes in the rural areas, today?

Or, it is the return to the rural roots of the large number of desperate and frustrated Youths who migrated to the urban areas but did not find jobs that is causing the spike in crimes and their intensity in the rural areas?

One may want to, also, look at the disproportionate absence of Law Enforcement Agencies, like the Police, among the growing population of the rural areas. In such vacuum of Police protection, the criminals have a free day, and the large People tend to wrongly resort to mob action to defend themselves.

Folks, we need to revisit these thoughts with all the seriousness they deserve, else we would soon become a Nation of complete lawlessness and totally crime-ridden, from East to West, North to South.

I hope those who stole from the victims of the accident search in their hearts to realize how terribly misbehaved they have been and return the stolen items. Do I sound funny, here? Maybe. But why couldn't the culprits do so? They should leave the items at the Police Stations nearest them without being noticed. What a heartless crime they committed!

God help us all!!
