  I am an Ashanti, and a very proud one at that. I adore the Otumfuo with every fiber of my being. However, it sounds insensitive to me that the Otumfuo needs to be "officially notified" about this tragic accident before he does or says anything about it. He is the life patron of Asante Kotoko. I wonder whether he gets "officially notified" when the team wins their matches. If I were a victim of such an accident, it would mean a lot to me to hear words of sympathy and encouragement from the Otumfuo, which is the least he can do if he cannot show up in person to mourn the dead or comfort the injured. To read that he is waiting to be “officially notified” before he acts suggest that he is too far removed from his people. Does the Overlord of the Ashanti Kingdom see this as a good time to Lord it over his sons?

  Is this also culture? Instead of management focusing on the accident victims and the family of the deceased, they're going to spend a whole day, amidst dancing and drinking, to notify who?

  Of course Otumfuo is aware of the situation. Officially notifying a king/policitian of a death is done all around the world.
