Dear Commissioner David,
I have elected to pen you and your police outfit a personal letter on behalf of our Society: "The Society For Prevention of Corruption And Cruelty Against Ghana & Africa(SPCCAG & Africa)" that firstly, accept our condolences on behalf of your fallen hero and all Police Officers who have died in the course of national and civic duties this year. Ghana salutes them for their bravery, gallantry and service to country and God. We love the Ghana Police for sacrificing to keep the communities safe. Thank you for services.
Secondly we wish to implore your commissined office to start a Ghanac Police Endowment Fund to support the procurement of protective gears, arms and ammos and other accessories. Mount public request for donations in kind and orher forms. Set a date and alert the public for the exercise. Do it often as you can in a planned event. Ask parliament to make it a law for all working Ghanaians to donate Ghc1.00 per month from their pay checques.
Third, SPCCAG & Africa also will like to impress on the citizens of Ghana to appreciate the good work the police are doing under present difficult circumstances through an aggresive public and community education by working with and through all the media houses; print, electronic and the New Media/WE via social platforms. Let the publuc know the police are also civilians in uniform.
Further, that the police are the first line of defence in terms of crime prevention and fight against terrorism and armed robberies. Ask the public to freely volunteer information about criminal activities in their communities.
Additionally, We urge you to ask for assistance from countries like the US and particularly cities and counties in the following states: 1) New York Police Deoartment, NY, NY, Atlanta Police Department of Georgia State, Montgomety County Police in Maryland, Dallas Police Department of Texas and some private security companies as for example Benard Shaw Security, Inc. The founder, Bernard, was one time a no nonsense guy who led the NYPD to thame criminals to a very low level.
2) IGP David Asante-Appateu, you could also want to establish links with the Israeli Police Force to learn and possibly ask for resource persons to come over and share new tactical know how in Community Policing, tactical operations in urban crime preventions and trainning/retrainning of the police personnel. I am no expert in security, but every prudent managerial consultant will tell this, there can be no econimic growth without peace, good law enforcement and a very well equiped police service or force. Good and healthy exercise are crucial for your petsonnel remember, David. The police must train to be soldier-fit at all times.
Next, Commissioner David, the Ghana Police Service must up its game in cyber security, have a Data Base and Data mine of criminals and coded maps or crime prone areas un the cities and Metropolis of Accra, Kumasu, Takoradi, Temale, Kasoa ever ready to roll. David use your IT knowledge for the good of the Ghana Police.
And the lest of all, don't forget the London Metropolitant Police as well as Scotland Yard for Consultative and friendly exchanges. Cuban Police tactics and send some of your men/women for trainning in Cuba. You will need their help too. Liase with their Embassies in Accra and make friends or fraternal friendships with the abovenamed Police organizations. Ask for help and they will readily come in handy. You only get assistance in knowledge if you ask. The whites are not selfish when it comes to knowledge sharing, it might cost a little or nothing, that you can not take away from the civilized Western world.
FInally, education, ommunity education and national awareness is the common good for a modern day police service. Your service must readily exchange intel with the BNI, EOCO, NSA and the with our neighbors in the Ecowas. Also use retired vetrans or Assiciation of all Police Senior Officers retired. Tap into their experiences and knowledge. Give priority to recruiting retired but young vetrans of the Ghana Armed Forces. This is a common approach in many countries world over. Its your turn David lets go after the criminals flooding into Ghana from Nigeria, Cote d'voire, Liberia and other war torn parts of the globe. Readiness begins with preparations. Open up and Information Desk online network people can reach your service to help.
Good luck David and we wish you a successful tenure of your Commussion as the IGP of Ghana.
