The minority in parliament have challenged the government’s claim that it has ended the erratic power cut popularly called dumsor in the country.

According to the minority the New Patriotic Party since assuming power on January 2017 till the time the budget was read never added a single megawatt to the nation’s national grid hence can’t take credit for solving the power crises.

Presenting the 2018 budget in parliament on Wednesday, November 15, the finance minister among other things announced that government has finally solved the power crises as promised.

“When I presented the budget in March, I indicated our commitment to take strategic steps to fix the challenges facing the economy and restore hope to Ghanaians.

“I’m happy to note that we have turned the economy around. We have achieved in one year, what seemed impossible to achieve in eight years’’

“We’ll like to assure Ghanaians that the government of President Nana Akufo Addo is a government which delivers on its promises, we promised to end dumsor and we’ve done that,” Hon. Ken Ofori Atta noted.

Meanwhile, the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu speaking to Accra based Joy FM stated that the finance minister had wanted to tell Ghanaians they have inherited reliable power supply instead.

‘’We were told that they have provided a reliable electricity, I am sure for lack of a better word, he had wanted to say that he had inherited reliable supply of electricity’’ He stated.

Former Deputy Power Minister and Minority Spokesperson on Energy, John Jinapor further challenged Hon. Ken Ofori Atta to tell Ghanaians what the government did to end the crisis.

“That’s a very bad comment and is in bad faith, dumsor ended as far back as January 2016 and you can check from GRIDCo, these are fact and not opinions. What did the Minister do to end dumsor? let him tell us. Did he add a single generating capacity, did he add additional financing? rather the levy that we instituted that you claim were obnoxious and indicated that you’ll scrap, you’ve not done that and so the Minister is being just economical with the truth.”
