Ahwiaa clashes: Jamming, dancing banned in the township

District Security Council (DISEC) at Kwabre East and leadership of the Ahwiaa Township have declared a ban on outdoor activities including jamming and dancing in Ahwiaa following recent violent clashes in the township.

This forms part of efforts to resolve issues surrounding the clashes and to restore calm to the area.

Clashes between some Zongo youth and indigenes at Ahwiaa left many residents injured and hospitalized.

The fight that broke early Saturday morning saw feuding factions attacking each other with machetes and other dangerous weapons.

DISEC following the clashes met Tuesday February 6 with leadership of the town comprising leaders of (both Zongo and Asante) to deliberate on recent developments and to find effective resolutions to the subject.

A consensus was reached at the close of the meeting and a number of recommendations made. It was decided among other things that activities which have the probability to spark chaos or mayhem if the factions clash should be avoided till further notice. A ban on jamming and dancing therefore has been temporarily placed on the township and all funeral activities are to end before 6.pm.

Chiefs and elders were admonished to identify culprits involved in the clashes to ensure that they face the full rigors of the law. A committee will also subsequently be formed to delve into the issues and find long-term solutions to the issue.



Below are some projections which emerged from the meeting between DISEC and leadership of Ahwiaa.

1. Formation of committee to look into the matter

2. Police should ensure the sale and use of drugs are controlled in the community

3. Jamming and dancing have also been banned

4. All funeral activities must end after 6pm

5. There will be peace talks on February 18 for both parties. Imams, pastors and politicians would be invited to speak at the gathering.

6. Leadership also want IGP to open a police station at Ahwiaa.
