Former President Jerry John Rawlings has slammed critics in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accusing him of trying to break the party away from its current national executives.

According to the founder of the NDC, he is not a faction seeking to break the party away from its core values and believes, rather trying to direct it towards these same values

“Let me repeat here as I conclude that Jerry John Rawlings is not a faction and will never be. Love me or hate me, but for our party to survive, the core values of what I stand for have to respected and embraced. I am what I am because of those values,” he said.

Speaking at the 39th June 4th commemoration held in Accra, the former Military leader added that the party rose to national significance by stringently adhering to such values.

Mr. Rawlings also bemoaned the scathing attacks on him, his wife Nana Konadu as well as anti-corruption campaigner Martin Amidu by young members of his own party, National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He wondered why these “vicious” young members who “indulge in all kinds of evil” keep firing salvos at him, his wife and Mr Amidu, who is now the Special Prosecutor.

Mr. Rawlings believes the younger ones in the party have deviated from the NDC’s principles of equity, probity and accountability. In his opinion, the younger ones now are only chasing after money to the detriment of the core values of the NDC.
