The Ahanta West Municipal Director of the National Commission for civic Education (NCCE), Mr Moses Kojo Baffoe has called for attitudinal change among the citizenry in the quest to stem corruption and bribery in the country.

He pointed out that corruption formed part of reasons why the country lagged behind in development which has gone a long way to increase poverty, inadequate provision of Social amenities as well as injustices in the country.

Mr Baffoe made the call during a sensitization exercise on Accountability, Rule of law and Anti-Corruption, (ARAP) with the aim to promote good governance, end corruption, improve accountability as well as ensure compliance to the Rule of Law to enhance development.

The more than one month exercise organized by NCCE and sponsored by the European Union is to ensure that duty bearers and other stakeholders are held accountable in compliance with the law.

It targeted faith based organizations, artisan groups, traditional leaders, schools, Assembly members, lorry stations and dawn to dusk broadcast in more than 30 communities.

Mr Baffoe who led the exercise spoke about the various forms of corruption which include bribery, nepotism and fraud stressing that they negatively affected the country's development.

The Municipal NCCE Director pointed out that corruption and bribery which were becoming a norm in the country was a bane to national development.

He in this regard appealed to all to eschew acts of bribery and corruption and endeavour to report such acts to the appropriate institutions for the necessary action to be taken.

Mr Baffoe noted that many people did not know the difference between gift and bribe and gave the assurance that the NCCE would intensify its education on corrupt practices.

"We need to change our attitudes to giving and receiving bribe; this is what is killing our nation".
